I picked up a plant at Home Depot today and I was hoping I could use it in my Red Eyed Tree Frog's cage. It's labeled "Tropical Mix: Pep, Philo, Pothos". I'm pretty sure that that type of plant is okay but I'm a little worried about whether or not they used fertilizer. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance.
take the plant out of the current pot and wash the roots, and remove any fertilizer that you see and was all the dirt off. Plant it in your tank with topsoil that is organic and you should be ok. That is what I did with my plants and there was no harm done to my FBTs and the plants are doing great
some people do the above and let the fertalizer work its way out for 2 weeks or so, so if your patient you could do that. honestly i feel its overkill. you should be ok
it probably will, but is it a peperomia, philodendron or pothos? a pic would help. a pothos you could actually save yourself some headaches and just plant clippings. in a few weeks it will root and start growing like the weedy vine they are

this never made sense to me. unless the frog you have EATS the plant, there is no way for it to poison the frog. but then again, i have noticed between the numerous forums i belong to (both amphibian and fish), that we americans seem to over analyze, over think and sometimes err way to far on the side of caution.

If you post a picture, someone can probably better identify the plant.
I tend to agree with Bill here. I don't believe the plants will be sweating out fertilizers in any harmful concentration. I also don't believe once the plants end up in Home Depot or the like that any pesticides are applied. At least not any with any sort of strength judging by some of the insect problems we've found at stores.
Personally, I just wash and remove all the potting soil, making absolutely sure I get all those little white perlite balls. But do whatever makes you feel comfortable.
Hey guys. I took it out of the pot, rinsed all the dirt off the roots, and replanted it with eco earth. I haven't put it in the cage yet just in case that isn't enough. I'll try to get a pic up later.
I curious how a Pothos look like :\
I wish i had more choices of plants over here to choose from...
still having some problems getting the f.pumila to become a weed in my tank... :\
Golden Pothos Plant, Devil's Ivy - Epipremnum aureum - Picture, Care Tips here's a pothos. you should have numerous local flora you can collect for your tanks. just gotta put the time in for the research. and get rid of those 10,000k bulbs. they are good for animal life like corals, but not real good for plant growth. you want to have as close to 6500k as you can.
and Riley, if you washed the roots off, you should be good. go ahead and plant it![]()
