ive seen this food on a youtube.com vid and i checked out there websit now thay clam that with just a little water you roll it into a ball and feed it to your pac/pixie i would like some more input befor i go off and start feeding my frogs this crazy mix...
I have it. I you tong feed a bottomless bit known as a pixie you'll love this stuff! Very healthy an convenient for a large, healthy, quick feed.
I have it also. I try not to feed it to my pixie so much because he eats it like there's no tomorrow. But its perfectly safe
Hi: I use it for my bullfrog and pacman....You have the same question I have....What are the long term effects of this stuff. I was on another amphibian forum, fatfrog, and asked if someone could tell me, based on the analysis, if it was safe in the long term. Here's the link to the thread: and the reply http://fatfrogs.7.forumer.com/viewto...=146259#146259
I also understand there's a breeder on this forum who uses it, but not exclusively. The upside is it's really convenient, the downside is I can't find any data to support how healthy of a diet it is in the long term. I've written the Japanese guy that sells this stuff several times but never heard back.

I would be interested in knowing the implications I this diet long term as well. I was planning on making this staple in all I my frog's diets (along with dubias and nightcrawlers). All of my frogs seem to go nuts over this stuff. I literally roll the ball in front of them and they just attack it. Also, it is almost all solid food, with insects you have to account for water content, which in nightcrawlers is almost 80%. So with this it is 100% food, where as nightcrawlers are around 20% food. However, the question remains are the ingredients in this food healthy and ok for long term use. The plant material I can kind I understand, most insects are gut loaded with plan material in the wild, so every insect most likely ha a pocket of plant material in their gut anyway.
Hi Bruce: I was also considering using the "just add water" food as a large part of their diet. Intuitively, I would think 75% with 25% of nightcrawlers, roaches and hornworms. I just don't feel comfortable with using it exclusively. I think there are many essential micro nutrients that insects have that are not found in the dry food. As an example, countless generations of captive water snakes have flourished on a steady diet of minnows. No other type of food, such as frogs or toads. I would think if you tried raising water snakes on fish fillets, after a period of time, that water snake will suffer from illnesses related to a lack of nutrients only found in the viscera of the minnow. The same, I THINK, can be said about the dry food. A diet of 100% dry food is not good, but to compensate, I think 75% dry and 25% insects to give it the micro nutrients it needs.
I'm going to write (snail mail) the Japanese guy who sold me the dry food. I hope the letter will reach him and will prompt a response.
If you find any data on the longevity of frogs fed the dry food, please let me know.
Thanks
Lloyd
im going to try it and see how much wt. m frogs put on
I'm feeding my baby ornate ( who doesn't look like baby anymore) pacman food every second feeding, it is the only frog who is eating from tongs so i don't have anything to compare with and I'm not sure if that is because of food or the fact that this little hungry monster is eating like there's no tomorrow, but he/she was 1' 1.5 month ago, now it is sitting at 3' with appetite growing as fast as its size.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
