So, I live in Corpus Christi, TX, and yesterday we had a major thunder storm. As my roommate and I where shooing the cat away from the window, I noticed something in the pool outside out apartment. There was a poor toad stuck in it with no way out! So, I went out in the pouring rain to rescue the little guy. Luck has it, I had an empty ten gallon tank with a heating pad (it used to house my leopard geckos, but they've moved to bigger and better housing since then!) so I put the little guy in there for the night. After a little research, I found out he was a Gulf-Coast toad, which, when you think about it, makes sense.
Today, after the storm died down, I tried to let him (I call it a him but I have no idea) go in some brush near the apartment, but he wouldn't go! I literally put him on the ground and he jumped right back into my hand. And, being the weirdo I am, melted my heart, so I've decided to keep him. Only problem is, I have no idea how to take care of this little guy. As I said, I have two leopard geckos and I know the basics of reptile and amphibian care, but I would really like to know more if I want to keep this little guy long term.
Some help would be totally awesome you guys! Thank you so much!
I don't know anything about toads, but here is a basic care sheet for toads if you haven't read it yet.Frog Forum - Toad Basics - Keeping ground-dwelling Toads. A care sheet for Bufo, Anaxyrus, Spea, Scaphiopus, Ollotis, Alytes, Pelobates
Thank you! This is very helpful :3
