So I was considering breeding nightcrawlers to save on some money but in doing so I wanted to know if it would be safe to feed nightcrawlers to my pacmans straight from my yard. It has been raining a lot and I'm sure I will find some worms.
Just would like to know if I can use outdoor worms or not.
No.
Any pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals that could be in the yard will be ingested by the worms through the soil they eat and not to mention a high risk of giving you frog a parasite. Night Crawlers are less likely to carry parasites, but are known to carry some nematodes.
So would my best option be to buy a large shipment of them and breed them?
yes, and it really depends on where you live. I have talked to several people who breed them and a majority say the best production is in a refrigerator with a climate control. I was thinking about doing it myself but it would cost too much to run a giant refrigerator. I guess if you live close to canada you can try breeding them in a tub outside until the frost is over.
I was reading on different sites and they said to do it where there's heat. Also I heard from someone in person who used to breed them that all is needed is a container with substrate and just feed them fruits
