    Default kind of a rant

I wonder if anyone else has this issue.
my co-workers (especially us "empty nesters") share lots of pet stories and pics. I look at their cute little dogs and cats and make the right comments. Then I show them pics of my beautiful frogs and get the same response every time: "Mel, that is a frog" (thanks for the update. I guess I can quit waiting for the fur to come in, lol). I don't get why they don't understand that I love my babies as much (or more) than they love their dogs and cats.

Btw: I don't have a computer, so I don't get to post much. My phone lets me read your post and see your great pics but I can't log in. Know that I am still with you all every day, and feel like I know many of you

I have the same problem except it goes one step further. My friends and family members all have kids. I have no interest in having kids of my own, much less their kids! So when they talk about their kids I like to talk about my pets (two cats, a bird and my froggy) and I get the dirtiest looks lol. Even better is when I tell them I'm trying to breed cockroaches! If I reacted the same way to their children I don't think it would go over very well!

I'm in the same boat as Michelle. I don't have have kids, don't want kids. When someone hears that I have frogs and geckos they assume I have kids and when they hear I don't they think I'm strange. My coworkers (except for my boss) think they are cool and will ask how they are and want to see pictures. I get the "why frogs" question all the time.

I tell people that my pets are just as much work as their kids are, but I get to leave my kids at home!

I'm thinking Christmas cards with matching sweaters on us and the cats and maybe some little stocking hats on the frogs and geckos. Oh,I have 3 cats and 3 frogs, The frogs can be on top of the cats heads and the boyfriend and I can just hold the geckos!

I think we are on to something here!

now THAT'S a photoshop project i can get behind!!LOL i always get asked the "why frogs" or "how can you say it's cute? it's a frog!" but it's even worse with my fish. well, shrimp specifically. when i tell people i bred shrimp, they would first look at me like my face just peeled off, then the first words out of their mouths, every single time: "Do you eat them?" i just used to respond "do you eat your pets? because these are mine." after a while though i started having fun with them and would just respond :"not anymore, i tried once but i couldn't hold the little legs open enough" and then sure enough, laughter and topic change i found it easier to hang out with other fish people instead....LOL

Haha this thread is giving me a real laugh. I don't think it's humanly possible to get all my pets in the same picture without photoshop! My bird would attack the cats (yes you read that right) the cats would try to eat the roaches (you read that right as well) the frog would try to eat the roaches and it would end up being the most devastating and entertaining christmas photo ever.

The roaches are so funny. It's no use explaining to people that they're breeders so I can't feed them to my frog because that would defeat the purpose so I tell them they're pets too just to get a reaction! They are really cool looking... but no one ever wants to see them LOL.

And Bill, that's so funny that you mentioned that. I just recently got a little fish tank that I decided to put ghost shrimp. So every time someone asks me what I'm going to put it in I end up getting a blank stare or a raised eyebrow. Shrimp are cool too!
