Frog Forum - Fire-Bellied Toad Care and Breeding - Bombina orientalis and relatives
These guys are neat looking, somewhat active, easy to care for, cheap, and I've yet to see a pet store that didn't offer them (during part of the year).
For my first frog I got a horned frog and had nothing but frustration with it. It got stressed really easily and would just stop eating. I'm sure not all horned frogs are like this, but from what I've heard they are more easily stressed than others but are still considered a "beginners species". I would personally suggest a white's tree frog. They are large, hardy and pretty chill in temperament. They need a larger enclosure than some frogs, but they are so much fun to watch hunt!
I've never had firebelly toads, but I've also heard a lot of good things about them. They like a half land, half water set up though. It all depends on what kind of personality and set up you want
What is the name of your fire bellied toads
My first frog was a Grey Tree Frog. I actually found it in my yard. He ate very well, didn't make a lot of noise and his temperature and humidity requirements weren't too hard to achieve. I have heard that White's Tree Frogs are great for beginners too. They are very hardy; they can tolerate being handled and can endure beginners' mistakes such as forgetting to mist, or a missed feeding. Good luck with your new froggie!
