    Default Help with WTF

I am a newbie all around. I read quite extensively before getting a Whites Tree Frog though. Well, I have had her(?) about 1 1/2 weeks. She ate 1 cricket the first day and two days later she ate 1 more. I have not seen any poop in her tank and I cannot get her to eat anymore. I started removing her from the tank to a container to try to feed her....she lets the crickets crawl all over and around her, but will not eat them. She appears to sleep alot and she soaks in her water dish during the day alot. She has a pretty green color most of the time and I have not seen any "red". Any suggestion? I have her on a 12/12 night/day cycle. The first night that she would not eat, I fed her at about 6:30 the next morning, but that was only one cricket. And I have tried feeding her at night and in the mornings to no avail. I really like my little girl, but I am at a loss. Is it too soon for her to feel somewhat secure? and how long can she go without eating?

Does she look bloated? Whites don't usually sit in their water dish for long periods of time unless there is something wrong. If she is impacted she would soak in her dish to try to help things along.

How is your temp/humidity? It's possible your humidity is too low.

If you have pictures of your frog and it's enclosure that would help.

The only way to really know what is wrong is to take her to a vet. Save any waste you find in a plastic baggy and keep it in the fridge until you can get it to a vet to be tested.

How do you feed the crickets? If you don't already do so, put a few dusted crickets in a glass bowl in her enclosure at night and leave her be. Check in the morning to see how many she ate. She could might be stressed from being in a new environment and then moved to another tank just for feeding. I would leave her in her normal enclosure with the glass bowl and see how she does.

Another thought, have you tried feeding her anything other than crickets? It's possible that your little girl doesn't like crickets. You can try feeding something else to try to peak her interest. I've started feeding mine red wigglers (cut in half by my boyfriend) to give them some variety. Two of them love them but one of them can't stand them and walks around the tank with her mouth open and saliva hanging as if I just tried to feed her brussell sprouts or something LOL!

My best guess is that she might still be stressed. Getting used to her new surroundings can take some time.

Tank size can also be a factor on mood and stress. The first terrarium I got was too small (pet store said it was fine) but I quickly upgraded and Frodo became more active and hungry. For a Whites tree Frog you want a 20gallon tall terrarium. Rule of thumb is 1 frog per 10 gallons but whites are bigger and need larger space...

You could try a natural honey bath with repti boost. I have read al ot about them helping with impaction and appetite. There are many posts on here with the exact method for this bath if you search it on here.

I wouldn't handle her too much the first while you have her an new move and environment can be stressful. Are there lots of climbing branches or plants? Any lighting?

Temp should be 80'F to 90'F
Humidity also in the 70% to 80% area.

Those 2 factors are huge in the health of any frog always have the right temp and humidity level its different for every species. (make sure your gauges are accurate)

Here is a link to the Whites care sheet on here it might help. Frog Forum - White's Tree Frog Care - Litoria caerulea

Hiya...thought maybe i shared my experience

Well my fren and i shared this 4 frogs...Whites tat is
It was cheap so we bag 4...now we regret it...because they are a bottomless pit
Forever eating and forever begging for food...

Well anyway, when we first got them, we put them into one of those square plastic containers with bright covers...over here we call it Guppy Tanks...because the brand is Guppy
Anyways...the frogs we chillin out inside the simple bare setup for a while...they will not touch crickets after they had Blatta lateralis
After a few days, i saw that 2 of them were always sittin and soakin at the bottom of the tank and i got worried as they are behaving oddly
They look really fat and fubbly and clumsy and we suspected something not right.
They were never like tat. I guess the stagnant water is bad even only just a day old...
We just took the chance, took all of them out and soaked them in fresh water...i even tried pushing them underwater...
apparently it worked well...they just started squirting out water and in a few minutes...they were back to normal cheerful and hungry as ever...
We did add a little stress coat anti chlorine...i cant remember the name...
The solution happen to be effective for me...but i dun swear that it will guarantee a successful outcome cause im no doctor

From that time onwards...no more crickets...just go healthy self cultured roaches all the way

Hope this help...by the way the 4 frogs are destroying their setup due to their heavy weight now...dropping all the plants we put inside
But they sing all the time...until we find it annoying now

This has been bothering me since I read it. I am glad that your White's tree frogs are doing better now but they are TREE frogs. They are not water frogs and should not be forced underwater for any reason. They could drown or get respiratory infections.
