Earthworms make a great staple diet but not all frogs will readily chow down on them. Many people use cockroaches.

Crickets are more smelly than scary

I don't know one way or another about moths as a staple diet. I haven't seen much on their nutritional content, nor have I heard of anyone feeding them exclusively.

Well I think you'll have to get over your fear of crickets... There are cricket keepers that have black (opaque) tubes so you don't have to physically touch them just tap or shake them out. If you have any wax worms that emerge as moths I think it's fine to feed on occasion. Be careful about feeding too many wax, butter, meal worms..they have high fat content and are only suitable for occasional feedings. I've had my grey for 8 years and she's done well on gut-loaded crickets with the occasional worm as treat. The crickets you get at the pet store may not seem as creepy to you as the black ones that you find outside. They wont bite, sting or hurt you so if you want to keep a frog as a pet..well they eat live prey, you will just have to get over your fear! There are however many nice lizards that are vegetarians..maybe that would be a more suitable match for you? I swear you will not regret the effort it takes to keep a grey..They are amazing and possibly the most beautiful of all tree frogs ( well some may be partial to red-eyed tree frogs) but I think grey's are the best andwell worth the effort!!
