    I've tried to use a moist paper towel for humidity and never had any luck. What I ended up doing was covering half the top in plastic wrap. That keeps my humidity around 60% during the day and 70-80% at night. I also try not to let the substrate get too dry, which helps a ton. Oh and it's probably helpful to note that I only have a 10 gallon tank right now so I know what you mean about struggling with humidity!
