Default After a long 5 years....

I'm now a Ceratophrys ornata owner! WooHoo! Hi all, my name's Erik. I purchased an albino C. ornata this weekend at NARBC Anaheim and couldn't be happier. I look forward to getting to know many of you and learning all that I can in order to provide the best care possible for my little one (who's been dubbed Bert for the time being since it's unsexed). I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn and share in this community.

    Best and kindest regards,
    Erik (and Bert)

    Hi Erik!

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on your new frog . We look forward to seeing your pictures. How big is your new fella?

I have 3 pacs myself . There are many pac lovers here, including a few breeders, some really knowledgeable members, and lots of people who love to share photos, stories, and experiences.

This is a great forum. Glad you decided to join. If you haven't scrolled around already, there is a nice care articles section and a pacman category to make finding posts easy. Have fun! If you have any questions, ask away.

Welcome to the forum! Please read the Pacman care sheet if you haven't already. Frog Forum - Pacman and Horned Frogs - Ceratophrys - Care and Breeding

Are you sure your frog isn't a C. cranwelli? As far as I know there are no albino Ornatas... Post pictures please!

There is an article in the september issue of Reptiles magazine about Pacman frogs and they say "Occasional C. Ornatas have occurred over the years, as has melanoid and an erythristic example more recently." It's a pretty good and big article about pacmans, totally worth getting the issue just for that.

I have the same doubts as you though, Grif. That's why I asked him to post pictures, if it truely is an Albino C. Ornata that would be awesome and I would love to see it! I imagine you'd have to pay a pretty penny for an albino c. ornata as well..

I was just thinking about this last night. I'm not really sure. This is my first frog and I tried to identify him myself via picture comparison (I forgot to ask at the show). I'm thinking that he's a C.cranwelli. What do you guys think? Sorry for the iPhone picture.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! Pluke, I have that issue but I'll have to re-read it. Thanks for the recommendation.

Thank you very much for your help! Hopefully in the future I'll be able to identify this species properly.

I'm sure you will in no time, I've only been into them for the last couple of months and I'm starting to recognize morphs and what not.

Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

Thank you. I'm a little worried about him now though. He's eaten 4 crickets in 4 days but looks bloated. He's out right now actively looking but I'm afraid to feed him a Nightcrawler and just bind him up more.

Ah yes, the bloated pacman belly. You'll have this from time to time. A nice round belly is okay for a pac. If he has a somewhat firm bulge to his right belly, he is constipated. A honey bath with luke warm dechlorinated water and about 3 drops of plain honey in which you soak your baby for about 15 minutes usually does the trick. If this does not help, a gentle trickling of dechlorinated water over his vent (rectum) often stimulates a good peeing and often a good poop. Just a small stream. They are not really favorable to the water over the butt trick. After his honey soak, rinse his dish out well and give him a regular plain dechlor water soak to remove residual honey from his back and belly. This usually works. He is likely not used to being handled yet, but if you don't get any results within a day or two, I let my pac hop around in a bigger plastic tub, and the activity usually gets him to go. I usually just put the honey water right in a plastic tub, let him hop around a bit, then place him back in his home in his own water bowl. Works like a charm. Sometimes takes a day for him to go though. I almost always find a good poo by the next morning .

Depending on how full or firm his belly is is a good way to determine if he should eat again yet or wait a day. Is his belly still full but soft or more firm?

Btw, he's adorable! What a cute face! I love albinos . Great find .
