    Default Red leg?? Pix

This frog was doing very well and matured quickly for his age. However, the water quality has been very poor in his tank this past month (will never happen again!) and now I'm worried that he has red leg or something. I noticed yesterday that one of his back claws looked all bloody and raw. the other was slightly red. Today they both look red and if you look at the foot on the right in the pics, his toes are getting bright red and swollen. Can someone please tell me what's going on and what are signs that he is getting worse? Also, another frog from the same tank has a front "toe" that is red and swollen. The tank hadn't been cleaned in about a month and the filter stopped working at some point.

You can see some redness there for sure. What happened that you let things go so bad?

4 front teeth were knocked out in a terrible "accident," thanks for asking. what are you saying, is he going to die? it seems slightly less red today, but still kinda swollen and wonky.

I'm not sure if it is actually red leg. I have no experience in identifying it. Hopefully it is not red leg though because I believe once the signs appear it is fatal and a sad way for a frog to die.

Ack.. sorry about your accident as well. : (

Thank you, I'm doing my best to cope. I feel awful about sucking up their water and everything. I think the best thing to do is give some away. I'm thinking the star of this post will be ok because he's still swimming around, eating and everything. He looks much less red and not bloody anymore. I would think that symptoms would be more severe and keep getting worse if it was red leg. Maybe he had the start of some kind of bacterial problem, but he's healing now that i'm changing his water daily?

Good call. Daily water changes are the best thing to do in your situation until you find a permanent solution.

It is possible the spots are ammonia burns. If that is the case improved water quality will eventually remedy it.

He seems to be almost 100% back to normal, the water changes must be working!
