So the last time both of my frogs pooped I noticed both had what appeared to be small white dots in them… upon closer examination I found that they were indeed moving and could be best described as with appearance close to very small white ticks. I'm pretty sure these are parasites, and it makes since they both have them because they live together in a divided tank and eat the same crickets. I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of parasites these might be, how harmful they are and how urgent any care should be given, and what that might be/what it would cost? They are both eating fine everyday and I noticed it in their poop a few days ago and just wasn't sure what to think. Thanks!
Take a fecal sample from each frog and place each in individual Ziploc bags marked so you know which came from what frog. Have a cotton ball dampened with de-chlorinated water in each bag to keep the sample moist. Until you can take the samples to a vet to have a fecal sample performed to figure out what parasite they have. Fecal exams are usually $20.00 per sample. Medication just depends on what's prescribed and whether you have to bring the frogs in to be seen.
will do, and thanks!
Oh the endless joys of crickets...
Where are you getting your crickets from?
will do grif, i'm actually calling the vet today. and tell me about it…. i got some from a reptile show in raleigh but usually from petsmart under the brand 'crickets to go". another thing i'm doing today is ordering dubia roaches.
