My White lipped tree frog seems to be showing early signs of red leg!! I lost a Whites to the affliction a few months ago so I'm really concerned. I spoke to someone at a pet store who had quite a bit of experience raising all sorts of frogs. He told me he used to add nolvasan to their water dishes from time to time when he noticed a bacterial infection taking hold. Does anyone have experience using it in this manner? He said he mixed it at a concentration of 1tsp per gallon of spring water.
Sounds a little fishy to me. Nolvasan would be good for cleaning the cage, but not for placing in any water bowls. What you need is antibiotics which means you need to see a vet as soon as possible. Also keep the cage as clean as humanly possible.
I am sorry I am not informed but in a nutshell what is Nolvasan? also where do you get it?
It's a disinfectant purposely made for zoological use. Its little bit like bleach, but not nearly as caustic.
It is also known as chlorohexidine. Many vets use it to clean wounds and as a general antiseptic cleaning agent. I just had my dog in the vet for a cut on his leg and they flushed it out using nolvasan. I just ordered some from amazon under the name chlorohexidine and it was a fraction the cost of nolvasan even though its the same exact chemical. A gallon of it was $12 as opposed to 16oz being $20 under the nolvasan branding. I plan on using it to clean my tanks and tank furniture.
That's what we used it for at the Museum of Science.
So essentially it is just a good safe cleaner? how does it affect plants?
