Hi, i am completely new to this and have many of the same questions. I have already set up an 18x18x24 but in process of choosing where to get our frogs from ( looking for a ReTF juvi and BETF juvi). A neighbor of mine is the animal curator at the HS Nature Center and builds and sets up all of the animal enclosures to state environmental standards and beyond. She is very experienced with all frogs. One she did say that u asked about was that i should abandon my plan for a water feature (i had bought a waterfall kit). She said its the biggest mistake people make unless simply for their own visual preference. She said that the frogs will always poop in moving water, instinctively they think it is what it is for and therefore is a complete mess all the time with clogs smell etc unless cleaned almost everyday. A water bowl (not deep enough to drown) can be changed easily every day. She did suggest a drip line into a plant IN a pot for humidity or a fogger. The first she said is simple to construct and keeps the tank bottom clean so its easy to clean up (she said they dont really use the bottom at all except for the water dish. She also suggested i do not use substrate unless i was set on creating a living complicated vivarium, but for the frog itself it is only a hazard for pests, choking, and difficult to do tank cleanings. She said the eco artificial carpet or even paper towels wrks best and if they have lots of vertical stuff to climb they are super happy.
Hope this helps, she really is an expert when it comes to the actual care and happiness of the animal. Please share where you are getting your frog from and how its going. I would love to hear![]()
