Default Feeding the Feeders *not for the faint of heart*

This is an epic feeding video I took last night of my Lobster Roaches Nauphoeta cinerea swarming some dog food. They act like they haven't been fed in a year.

Turn up the volume, go fullscreen, and enjoy

The skittering noise is awful lol I've never had or seen a roach outside a pet store but this made me want to check my dog food container for bugs and make sure it's sealed.

Aren't you worried they will escape your bin and take over the house?

and ewwwww I also watched your "cleaning the lobster roach bin" video...much worse.
I don't consider myself squeamish (I used to want to be an entomologist) but I don't know if I could keep those in my house!

I do worry about them infesting my house. That's why there are "roach motels" in the corners of every room in my house. Roach poison paste on top of each windowsill and doorframe, roach killing powder under the dishwasher, refrigerator, oven, furnace, hotwater heater, washer, and dryer. All of the poison in my house is well out of reach of my girlfriend's little dog, and in places where roaches would likely be found.

Many roach poisons are designed for the roach to return home and kill all of his housemates, that's why I also vaseline the OUTSIDE of my roach tanks. I don't want poisoned roaches returning home to kill my colony.

Also, tropical roaches do no readily breed at room temperature. Plus if you keep your house clean there really isn't that much for them to eat. I mean one or two could survive for a while yes, but would they thrive? Would they reproduce and cause infestation? Very unlikely, unless you are breeding a known pest species like German Cockroaches, American Cockroaches, etc.

Also if you live in warm climates like Florida or the tropics there is a good chance even the feeder species could cause an infestation. So be careful if you culture them

+1 On covering your bases; I've already heard a horror story of not only the roaches in the colony being harmed, but an unfortunate herp who was fed a poisoned individual from said colony being killed as well. Good call on the double vaseline job ; )

I've contemplated getting rid of my lobsters after a few escapee scares. They are the only species in my roach collection that I fear for potential infestation after having them breed in temperatures as low as 70 degrees F and minimalistic care... but they are just too cute to part with, lol.

Yeah, I like observing roaches, having them living freely in my house to crawl over my face while I sleep is not okay. This is why I take my roach poison seriously XD I would be devastated if I fed my frog a poison roach :'(

I dunno about cute, they are just SO prolific I know I will never lose them to a colony crash, lol

Wow! That's a lot of roach proofing work! I think I'll stick to rosy red minnows, crickets, moths and nightcrawlers!!

How does your girlfriend feel about all the creepy crawlies?
My cat goes nuts any time he sees a bug in the house, I'd have to keep them in a sealed off room or something.

So far we've never found one of my roaches roaming the house, so all is well with the girlfriend & the insects XD I actually did most of that roach proofing because I have a problem with german cockroaches finding their way in when it gets cold in the fall. It's just a bonus that if I did have an escapee it probably wouldn't make it long in my nuclear wasteland of a house, LOL
