Hi i own 2 green tree frogs, have only had them for at lest 5 weeks now and was just wondering if i need to buy a rainful system for them, al so a fogger and mister? just got told by a pet shop that i need all that stuff but wanted to make sure first if he is telling me the right thing. thanks
If you are there to mist them to keep there humidity levels where you need them then I think its unnecessary. They are neat, cool and convenient. But if they create too much humidity for what your frogs need that's also and issue. I am a stay at home mom so I can monitor the humidity levels regularly... I mist morning and night and on some days more if the tank seems to be lowering to 50'F... I try to keep it at least 60'F. Which if yours are American Greens is where you want them... between 60 and 70. I have a large shallow water dish also so if it does get a little low they can bath. I keep the subtrate moist but not soaked, this also helps with moisture.
thanks for that so you like have to be home to monitor it all the time is that right? and if i dont get these things would they be okay or do they need that stuff? ill be going on holidays in christmas time and scared about how im going to look after them because all my family are interstate so they cant look after them for me so i have to leave them home alonebut only going for a week so would you know what i can do to stay alive during the times i go away? thanks
I don't monitor it all the time but you need to make sure they are at proper levels. If you are going away then yes you might want to look into an automatic mister... if frogs dries out too much they will die. Also You will definitely need someone to feed and change water dish at least every other day... though daily is of course preferred. Maybe you can find a close neighbour that you trust or a pet store that takes on pets temp. I've read other posts asking members that live really close to frog sit. But you cant leave them without proper humidity... clean water to bath in and food for a week =(
