I'm going to be getting a white's tree frog in the near future. I have a 10 gallon tank that I will be keeping it in while it's still small. But once it grows I would like to get a larger terrarium and possibly a second frog. I would like to know your opinions on what a good size terrarium would be. I've been looking into the exoterra and zilla terrariums that open from the front. That just seems like it would make cleaning and feeding much easier. I would like to try to save some money too so I was also thinking of converting a tall aquarium into a front opening terrarium but I have no idea how to do that and if it would be at all cost effective. Any insight would be appreciated!
I started with 2 small WTF in a 12x12x18 exo-terra. After watching them it was a little two small. They love to climb and be up as high as they can, in that tank they were constantly trying to figure out how to go get out of the top and actually fell a few times trying to attach to the top screen. Another problem I had with that particular tank was it has one door. They very quickly figured out that's how I got into the tank and would either sit on the door itself and wait for me to open it and try to jump out or they would sit in right at the crease of the door so I couldn't open it at all. I have recently upgraded to the exo-terra 18x18x24. This one has 2 doors. The only problem I have now is I only have one frog in it and a lot of times I can't find him because it's so big! He loves it though because he has lots of space to jump around. I'm now using the smaller tank as a quarantine for 2 other WTH until I can put them in the bigger tank with him.
As far as the cost factor goes, the smaller tank was on clearance for like $50 at Petco. The bigger tank I got from Amazon for $115 and it came with a foam background that looked like rock (which I didn't use because I bought a bark background). If you had the materials and the know how to make your own tank that would be real cool. Maybe make a list of all the materials you would need and how much they would cost and then figure out what's the best route for you.
