I have 3 fire belly toads and have had them for just over a year now. They are happy, healthy, and eat like it's going out of style. For the longest time I could hear this squeaking noise and I thought my tv was broken. Turns out it was one of my toads. I tried looking it up and read that it was the males that make it. Do I have to worry about mating or watch out for anything like that? Is it only the males that make noise? I've been trying to guess their genders this whole time... is there any way to tell?
Fire-bellies need to be cooled over winter to produce eggs. When sexing Bombina orientalis, males will call (obviously) and have black-tipped tubercles. Females generally have a smoother complexion.
Perfect! Thanks so much!! This site has helped me out SO much!
You're welcome. Eventually there will be a fire-belly article up and running. So keep an eye out for it.
