    Smile Hello everyone!

What a wonderful place to have stumbled upon! I'm a work-from-home mom from South Carolina. I'm a moderator for a social game forum so I was estatic to find this one about frogs (my favorite topic to chat about.) I have loved frogs since I was a young child. I now have two children that share that same love. Up until now, I've stayed a distance from raising them so that I could find out more about them and the best way to go about adding some to our family, as well as teaching my two kids on the proper way to raise them. Found this forum yesterday, so much information that I cannot wait to dig into. I know a decent amount of information on tomato frogs and am learning about fire bellies; I'm trying to figure out which type of frog/toad will be best for us and learn more about those two as well. Look forward to chatting with some of y'all and seeing you around!

Welcome to the forum! I always reccomend grey tree frogs to new frog owners for three reasons.

    1) They tolerate a wide range of temperatures and humidity levels.
    2) They almost always eat well, whereas others frogs are easy to go off feeding when they feel stressed.
    3) I am biased. I own 5 (soon to be 6) grey tree frogs, and I absolutely love them!

Here are my wet skinned compadres:

^ From left to right: Bud, Rocket, Kermit, Weiser, Frogger

No matter what species you choose as your first, you will surely love the hobby and find everything you need here on this forum.

They are beautiful! I was just in another thread about them, I'd seen them before but never knew the full name. I'm definitely going to do my research before purchasing, not going to try starting out big and hurt the little ones in the process.

One thing I've seen around here that I haven't come across much otherwise. The numbers y'all track in your signatures. 2.2.1, 0.0.1, etc. I always know those as "versions" so here, what does that mean? So many terms and abbreviations here to learn as well, so I'm not so lost!

Those numbers are how many of each gender you own. If you see something like 2.1 that means 2 males 1 female. If there is a third number that means unknown. male.female.unknown

Gotcha, ty! I felt so silly, I knew it had to be something common for so many to have it listed but I just couldn't figure that out.

I'm excited for you . I get that feeling every time I build a new tank and when I get my frogs. It's so fun. Then the enjoyment continues when you see that they're happy in their new home. Congrats!

Aww I can imagine! How many frogs/setups do you have right now? I see your sig says 3 species but had to be nosy and ask the amount too (I try to talk about this stuff with my friends and they just give me funny looks.)

Thanks! Over the years all my friends have heard about them (thank goodness my absolute best friend and neighbor loves turtles - at least we have a small bit of common ground!) But besides that, it's hard to relate. Lord knows my Facebook gets bombarded with crazy frog photos all the time by my friends who think I'm slightly too obsessed. Do I knock their crazy antics about their cats, dogs, goats, etc.? lol. Glad to have found somewhere I fit in

Lol! I know exactly what you mean. It's nice to be able to share with people who love them as much as you do.

    I currently have:
    7 red eyed tree frogs
    3 pacman frogs (1 cranwelli, 2 fantasies)
7 baby toadlets raised from tads (we let some free already)
    2 red spotted newts

( In past, have had firebelly toads, American toad, red spotted newts, and many fish, not including our fuzzy pets )

I should probably update my signature , lol!

Oh wow that is amazing! I would love to have such a variety, however, I know to pace myself :P One more question and I promise I'll shush. Have you been raising them your whole life? Love your siggies btw, wasn't sure if you found them on here or made them but very cute!

Thanks , my buddy Tiko made my signature tags for me.

No, actually. I just started raising frogs and toads mostly in the last year or so. I've taken in random rescues here and there but usually for just a few days, then I let them go.

Once I learned how to care for them, I couldn't resist seeing them in the stores with improper housing, dehydrated, being super thin, with wounds, and/or infections.

No worries on the questions. Ask away .

Haha! Thanks! It doesn't take long to learn here. I read and listen here, ask questions, and read books. I have some medical background too, which helps.
