Default Help! i think my milk frog just died :(

I was just moving them to a bigger enclosure, got one of them into it fine, then i gave the other one the tinyest poke so that he would jump into the new one, and he sorta spazzed out and his back legs went outstretched and then he hasnt moved since and hes all floppy . I have no idea what happened and i dont know what to do!

Is the frog breathing? Can you see a heartbeat on th frog's back or underside? Are the eyes responsive when you touch the back of the eyelid?

Possibly a stroke. I am not sure what could have caused this. Could be that you scared the frog causing sudden heart failure. Could you post some pictures of the frog so members can have a good look at the frog?

I am not sure what has happened. I see no apparent reason for the frog to die. I'm pushing more towards a stroke. I would try a warm soak in De-chlorinated water. I don't know if these frogs play dead or not, but if it did die the only way to know what may have happened now is by having a Herp Vet perform a Nechropsy to determine cause of death. The body looks fine.

If the frog is truly dead I am sorry for your loss.

    Hi guys

My other frog died earlier it seemed fine this morning, and then this evening after dinner I looked in its tank, and it was drowning in the water, the water is not deep at all and it could have easily sat up in the water but it was just lying in the water looking as if it was trying to swim with its head under the water. I have no idea why it was doing this and why it didn't sit up or jump out of the water I don't know what to do now that I've lost both of them

If they both died suddenly I'm going to guess some kind of toxin or posison. Possibly something airborn? Were you cleaning the room, did you spray anything?

I am terribly sorry to hear about your loss, I hope we can determine what the cause was.

I'm so sorry to hear this.

I would tend to think poisoning of some sort as well, maybe in creating the new enclosure? Did you clean it with anything or possibly have something on your hands?

They both died in completely different ways though :/ I can't see where I could have gone wrong as I did everything how I was meant to. I didn't use any chemicals to clean the enclosure when I was setting it up, changed the water every day. And they seemed fine for the first 2 weeks, then the first one suddenly had some sort of seizure or something, nd then the other one suddenly drowned itself a few days later?

I'm going to say the cause was possibly due to some sort of neurological disease that cause the second frogs death. That is very irregular behavior. Do you use a de-chlorinating agent to treat their water? Do you use a multivitamin and calcium supplement to dust their food with? What did their diet consist of?

The first frog definitely seemed like it may have had a stroke or heart failure from you startling it, but this second death I do believe was neurological.

I always dechlorinated the water that i gave them and misted them with, and they were only eating fruit flies

Do you think I should clean out the enclosure properly before I get any more? And is there anything specifically I should clean it with? I will put new substrate in there and clean everything else.

im sorry for your tragic loss. I wish the best of luck with future milks. i would definitely clean the cage and disinfect for a precaution. most on here use a 10% bleach solution. I think some also mentioned before that they use wipe out or wipe off. I am not sure if that product will disinfect, but it will be good for spot cleaning in the future.

Arial is right. You can either use a 10% bleach solution or a product called Wipe Out 1. Both will clean and disinfect the enclosure.

A neurological disease can appear if they are not receiving proper vitamins and nutrition. If you were not supplementing their food, providing a varied diet, or not git loading their food then it quite possible that they developed a condition from have a vitamin deficiency.
