    Default Frog survivor!

    Hi everyone,

So I moved into a new place a few days ago (this will lead somewhere frog related, trust me). I wasn't able to transport my regular little table right away, and there wasn't much room in the bedroom, so I had to temporarily put my White's tree frog's, Khan's, tank out in the living room. It ended up being in the corner, next to the fireplace.
Yesterday afternoon, I took him out of his tank to do regular maintenance. There's a little tupperware dish that he loves resting in, so I just took that out and put it aside - he always, up to that point, stayed put inside it. My roommates came to look at him, and then suddenly he leapt out to the side, toward the fireplace. I thought it was just a regular corner, and the fireplace was very clean, so I didn't stop him. But it wasn't just a corner! There was an extremely thin gap, invisible from my point of view, in between the fireplace and the floor, and my frog just immediately squeezed through that gap and out of sight. At first I wasn't too alarmed, assuming that the gap wasn't very deep and that we'd get him out in no time. He huddled somewhere near the back, and, shining a flashlight into the gap, we fished a piece of cardboard through there to try and get him to grab it and pull him out. At first, it worked - we got him a little ways closer to us, but then he jumped off the cardboard piece. I tried sliding it under him again, and accidentally pushed him down into a pit in the very back that I, once again, wasn't aware of! Genuinely worried by this point, I poked around in there as much as I could with the cardboard, but I couldn't feel any sign of him. It didn't seem to go down very far but for all I know it could have been a grating.
I went to get apartment maintenance but there was nothing they could do, that part of the fireplace wasn't removable at all. All I could do was slide a little shallow water dish in there, as far back as it could go without falling, and wait.

Hours went by, nighttime came and there was no sign of him, not even sounds of stirring. I feared the worst, that he fell down the chimney or was trapped somewhere. I was devastated. I loved that little frog and missed his chubby face. By morning I began to accept that he had probably died - it was terrible to think that the ash and dust probably clogged up his skin and he died of dehydration or suffocation somewhere in a dark dusty pipe.

And then, tonight, something incredible happened! My roommates and I were talking in the living room when we heard a noise coming from the corner. It was my frog, trying to climb back into his tank! He was very dirty, but otherwise looked unhurt. His underbelly looked a little irritated but that's to be expected since he was sitting in a pile of ash and dust for more than 24 hours. I gave him a bath immediately, of course. I have a question, too, actually - does he need any treatment after such an ordeal?
Anyway, just wanted to share my happy reunion story, he's definitely not coming near any fireplaces again : P Has anything like this ever happened to your frogs, where they got away and came back? Or perhaps were just found? I'd love to hear your stories!

Wow, You are very lucky !
I'm so glad you were able to get him back. Poor little guy !
And, I'm happy to say I have no frog escape stories to share!!!!! Scary

    YES
Any obvious- broken- skin should be treated so infection is prevented.
Plus, he is probably stressed out.

Maybe a honey bath.........at the very least?
