Grif, how'd you figure out your frog got parasites from crickets? Is there a way to prevent that?

Grif i was wondering about this too, never thought about that actually before, but it is kinda scary when this possibility to get them infected with parasites from crickets exists.
so sorry for your loss, poor Fiona
Sorry that she passed, Patsy. Sometimes there's just nothing you can do.Do you know exactly how she died?
And Grif I'd also like to hear about how you found out your frogs had parasites. Now you've got us all worried. :P
Typically, you can take a fecal sample to the vet and they can check it for you. I am on beardeddragon.org cause I have beardies too, and there is a website that you can order fecal kits and meds to treat parasites. they a;so have a link to a page to help you identify common parasites. Heres the links.

Medications (site to order meds from) The lady that runs the site is very helpful. she might be able to answer questions about frogs and parasites.
Lilblack, I just noticed your other pets....I too have a cat named ISIS! I have 3 total, not sure if I could take care of 20!
Yeah, I swear My parents and I run a homeless shelter for stray animals. lol
Sorry about Fiona, it can be really frustrating to not know why something happened.
One day his bowel movement was very runny and when I looked closely at it, I saw little white pieces. I sent the sample to the vet for testing and he confirmed it was parasites.
Crickets are generally considered very dirty creatures. They carry parasites more often than people realize. Now I use nightcrawlers as a staple diet, but I have pacmans not tree frogs... As for prevention- Maintain high levels of cleanliness. Get the crickets from a reliable source. And monitor your frog very closely for any sudden changes in behavior or physical syptoms.
