Fiona Frogs last days. Picture Heavy.

Just thought I would share some photos of Fiona's last days. Be prepared, some of the pictures are kinda morbid. I took them because there was nothing at that moment I could do to help her, but thought maybe they would be helpful for the vet to see.


This is Saturday when I first put her in her hospital tank.

Shortly after she went to the bathroom, it took 5-10 minutes

But we got poop!

Seizure. This was the first one I saw in this position, the other ones she had her back legs were stretched.

Immediately after the seizure she was back on her feet.

Crickets can carry parasites. One of mine got worms from them once, but we got it early on and the flagyl was effective. Most likely the parasites and resulting infection damaged Fiona's internal organs too much and it was too late for the flagyl to work. Again I am very sorry for your loss. :-( It is good though that you are trying to learn from the experience and help prevent this from happening to Shrek.

Grif, how'd you figure out your frog got parasites from crickets? Is there a way to prevent that?

Grif i was wondering about this too, never thought about that actually before, but it is kinda scary when this possibility to get them infected with parasites from crickets exists.

Typically, you can take a fecal sample to the vet and they can check it for you. I am on beardeddragon.org cause I have beardies too, and there is a website that you can order fecal kits and meds to treat parasites. they a;so have a link to a page to help you identify common parasites. Pluke, not really too sure. She was being treated for pinworms and roundworms. Her white blood cells were elevated and she had some muscle weakness. Monday she got her first deworming meds and we had been giving her Flagyl and calcium supplement since then.

One day his bowel movement was very runny and when I looked closely at it, I saw little white pieces. I sent the sample to the vet for testing and he confirmed it was parasites.

Crickets are generally considered very dirty creatures. They carry parasites more often than people realize. Now I use nightcrawlers as a staple diet, but I have pacmans not tree frogs... As for prevention- Maintain high levels of cleanliness. Get the crickets from a reliable source. And monitor your frog very closely for any sudden changes in behavior or physical syptoms.
