Tonight my African Bullfrog broke his back leg!
I feed him in a separate container so make sure he is able to catch all of his food (they love to burrow in the bedding and hide behind and under his pond). After feeding, I lifted him to put him home, and he found a burst of strength and jumped out of my hands!
It is 10:00 P.M. here and so there are no vets open, so first thing tomorrow morning I am going to find a vet in the area and rush him over. I know my boss will not be happy about missing time, but I have to take care of my frog first.
Is there anything I can do for him myself? I hope he is not in too much pain! He can still move his back leg, but it twitches a little and I can feel the bone where it is broken.
Lately it's just one bad thing after another with my babies... I feel like such an awful frog mother!
Sorry to hear about your frog Until you get to the vet, swab Bactine on the wound, this will prevent any bacterial infection.

Is there an external cut along with the fracture?

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear this news!
From growing up with brittle bones; I can say your frog is probably in some pain you may want to get him to a vet tomorrow... See if they can do anything. I doubt they could splint it or cast it, considering its an amphibian, but maybe at least some sort of pain relief?
I honestly don't know what to tell ya here
Beat of luck though, I hope he heals soon!
There is no external cut.
I took him to the vet today. The good news it's just a fracture. The bad news is there is nothing they can do for it. They tried to splint it, and it didn't work. Therefore the best I can do for him is to keep him in a small container for 2 months so he can't move around much. That should help it heal on its own. I hate doing this... I don't think he is going to be happy in such a confined environment.
They gave me a pain medication but he won't open his mouth to take it. I tried and it stressed him out, so I gave up.
I hope he heals okay with no complications. Thank you all for the help and support!
I wish the best for him! Hopefully the only thing bad that coins out of this is the memory.. Keep us posted!
How is your frog?... Curious for an update.
He's better now and back to his normal self. Thank you for asking! 1
Sadly I now have another problem... I have so little time anymore that I am finding it difficult to care for my 2 firebelly toads. I am considering finding them new homes.
