Funny though , he never had one ?
Well....it did not take very long for him to get to know my 2 cats I moved in with!
    Now, he loves cats.
Have you ever owned a cat? I mean, a cat that you -personally-picked out and took home?
    They are very devoted!

Never had one myself. My mom has some, and I will say I do really like one of them, but for the most part I don't care for cats. Every once in a while I will meet a rare cat that I like :P

If I ever had the opportunity to get an F1 Savannah Cat for way cheaper than normal I would get a cat, no hesitation.

I never met a Savannah; they are beautiful !
My Mom had an Ocicat.......He was difficult when the other pets were around.
He was the first cat I ever met ( I have had many) that was a bit unpredictable.
I , currently, have 2 Burmese.(one sable and one blue). These 2 boys are my 3rd and 4th Burmese.
    It makes me sound really old. Actually, one was stolen and the other poisoned ;
which brings us right back to where we started. They should just stay IN ! Just BAD stuff outside.
Especially Burmese- as they are very friendly and will walk up to anyone.
Also very dedicated........very dog like personalities!
ie I'm sitting at my desk and they are both at my feet.
If you would like to meet them --check out my "Other Charges" FF album.

Red-eyed tree frogs change colors to blend in. If he is not around dark backing, plants, or ground, there is really no reason he should be darker. Humidity issues can also cause the skin to become darker. Due to the fact that he is very dark and his skin does not apear to be extremely moist, I would point this at low humidity.

In my experience, this is not true... sorry.
My red-eye is always darker at night, when the lights are out. Even with high humidity and perfect temps. When lights come on first thing in the AM, my red-eye appears darker, like Lynn's Ruby.

It's so interesting how this thread has evolved!
I am a HUGE cat lover! I live in the country, and the danger for my cat is coyotes. I have an American Short haired tabby.
Fortunately I do not fear poisoning nor pesticides, like Lynn, but do fear my cat will be eaten! My cat goes outside with me in the garden, then back in the house he goes!
I do agree that cats are safer and healthier if they live indoors.

Well, while I'm at it (posting multiples on this thread!), how do you keep your viv glass so clean? I scrub mine with clean rags and treated water, to no avail! My frog's viv glass is so stained with hard water spots

In another tree frog quote where this same question was posed, (http://www.frogforum.net/tree-frogs/...een-color.html) on the second response, Don said quote,

"They change color due to several things, from humidity, temperature, mood, and even to blend in. It is going to be very common for you to find him this color. They change color quickly and I can photograph one in full bright green and then minutes later find him dark brown.

How long have you had him?
What are the enclosures temps and humidity for both day and night time?".

I have also found that if the red-eyed tree frog is a dark color (more of a dark brown) it may mean that there is an environmental problem in the tank ie. Humidity, temp, ect.

Are you directing this question to me or Lynn?
I believe Lynn has had Ruby for several years, but she can answer that. She also has several Black eyed- tree frogs and several other red-eyes....
Her experience is full, and she is very knowledgeable, as is Don.
Though I agree that red-eyes will change color due to environmental problems, they also change to a darker color at night. (this may be part of their camo)

I have had my red-eye for only 2 1/2 months. I am not as experienced as Lynn, so I will let someone else chime in on this subject now, as I am a little offended by your comments and assumptions of the care our frogs are receiving. I spend hours upon hours researching and I am perfectly informed on the care red-eyes require.

    Hi Meade
The humidity in my enclosures is actually quite stable; controlled by an automatic misting system and well ventilated with a small fan that pulls the air out and set on a timer. My red eyed tree frogs are dark at night and are their beautiful light green color during the day when the lights are on. The 6 am photo was taken just at lights ON. Hence, "night and day". This is normal.

I have , personally, never noticed one of my red eyes ......... dark during the day.
If a red eyed tree frog's coloration is mottled, spotted or dark during the day, one should expect that the frog is stressed or not well.

Cute little 'Ruby' is my oldest red eyed tree frog.
I acquired him in August of 2008 as an adult. So, not quite sure of his age.
He is also my smallest ( green) red eye.

He's little fired up! 'Cricket' is sleeping behind him. Ruby was just on his leaf ; shaking up a storm.
Cricket was not about to give up his leaf!
'Luna', my albino, is just calmly watching the whole ridiculous 'display' from boss Ruby.
They are so funny ! Gotta love it

    That's funny!

Lynn, I'm thinking about getting my daughter a ragdoll kitten for Christmas . They're so cute. They tend to be very mellow and lovable. She's been asking for a cat for a couple of years but now she is 10, almost 11 and I think she's responsible enough to have one. If you've never seen them, they're adorable . I'm not sure which coloring yet. We currently have a black short haired, but she likes my husband best. She follows him around like a puppy. Too cute . Just thought I'd share.

    Hi Bill,
Shower curtain rings! They work really great to hang things off the frame of the (exo terra) screen top..... 2 bucks for a dozen from the supermarket, aluminium, (don't rust) and they have NO pointy parts for the frogs to impale themselves on! . I just hung that grape vine ( I have to thread some pothos vine through the rings to disguise them ) There are probably about 10 in there. I use them to suspend the entire canopy. I took the phots to show Ruby's color when the lights had just gone on .

Suspended pothos vines before the wood was added:

That wood has a funny story. It's actually a 'bird perch'. I get them at petco. 14.00$

So, I bring 2 of them home, scrub them up, and put them in the oven to bake off the bad stuff......and I over baked them-- really over baked them The entire house smelled like - well use your imagination! It was a very medicinal smell to say the least! I let them dry only to realize they still smelled so badly I was not going to be able to use them at all...I thought it could make my frogs high.... lol- kiddidng . In desperation I soaked them in the bathtub in bleach for days, then sealed them into a white kitchen/ garbage bag covered with an entire box of baking soda for over a month .
    It worked !!!!!
