She's so healthy looking! My red-eye is a bit thinner...
I was going to PM you, but I'll just ask here.
Do you feed your red-eyes every night? I have been feeding mine every night about 5 small crickets, she sometimes leaves one or two in the bowl when I go in to turn on her lights...
She looks healthy, but after seeing Ruby, I'm wondering if mine could put on a little more weight.
I'll email you a pic when I can get to it, and maybe you can let me know what you think?

YES I feed every night. (small crickets) I have never fed medium crickets.
(both my A callidryas and the A moreletii)

There are a lot of skinny red eyed tree frogs
If there is a reason to ration their food......I have no idea what that reason is, or why?

They will not over-eat. They will develop there own feeding schedule.
Simply remove uneaten food asap and return them to the bin to feed/or gut load.

Specifically- I have two enclosures
In one , at the moment, I house one adult A moreletii- he gets 6 small crickets every night ( I have a dusting schedule...... cal and vits are not dusted on the same nights) I use one clear glass bowl. He never eats the same amount from night to night.

In another tank I house 4 adult red eyed tree frogs. It has 2 clear glass bowls. I put 6 small crickets in each bowl. Same thing. There is no rhyme or reason as to what they eat.

There will always be missing crickets from the red eyed 's bowls.
(from no remaining crickets in the bowls to just a few missing)

The black eyed ( A moreletii ) eats more erratically. Unlike the red eyes, he may go a night now and then w/out eating any at all. Then make up for it by eating all 6 the next night. He eats quite a bit .

Why 6. Simply to have consistency in taking a head count as to how much food is missing each morning.

The 4 A moreletii froglets get a feast every night ! They have graduated to extra small crickets.

When I brought home the little girl and her brother (from petco, http://www.frogforum.net/tree-frogs/...ew-mexico.html) she was only slightly bigger than a quarter. Now she's almost 2 inches! I've always fed her nightly, though she didn't really eat for the first few days. Now she eats any where from zero crickets and as many as 5 per night (using the glass bowl feeding method).
I know she's growing, but when I saw Ruby, I thought she may be a little under weight and thought that maybe she needed more??? But if A. callidryas can regulate their own food intake, I'll stop worrying?
Of course, I can't find my camera, but when I do I'll post a pic.

I also have a L. caerulea, and he will probably eat until he explodes. His appetite is unending! So when I started noticing left over crickets in my A. callidryas, I was slightly concerned...

One other question:
I use Repashy Calcium plus, which says on the package to dust with every feeding. It is a Cricket Instant Balancer and 'All In One' supplement, which I understand means that the calcium and vitamin ratio makes the crickets a complete food?
Here's the analysis:
GUARANTEED ANALYSIS: Crude Protein min. 2%, Crude Fat min. 0.2%, Crude Fat max. 0.6%, Crude Fiber max. 1%, Moisture max. 8%, Ash max. 35%, Calcium min. 17%, Calcium max. 20%, Phosphorus min. 0.6%, Vitamin E min. 2,000 IU/lb, Vitamin D min. 20,000 IU/lb, Vitamin A min. 200,000 IU/lb. Total Carotenoids min. 500 mg/lb.

I have had conflicting advice from people, some saying to dust only twice per week, others who dust with every feeding.
I currently dust with every feeding for both my red-eye and white's). What are your thoughts on that?

My dusting schedule for both my A callidryas and the A moreletii is as follows:

I use:
Rep-cal Calcium with Vitamin D ( Phosphorous free)
Rep-cal Herpativite ( w/ beta carotene ) multivitamins

mon- calcium
tues-vits
wed-nothing
thur -calcium
fri- vits
sat-calcium
sun-nothing

so this = ca 3X weekly and vit 2 X weekly

If my A moreletii should skip a night's crickets--- I will dust with what he missed the next night

My cricket food is a combination of:
a home made recipe

occasional fresh produce or orange slices ( yuck ....... too messy !)

Repashy Superload
Flukers Cricket juice
gut load from Purr and Waggs
(there food is wonderful, they have a banner here on FF) I have purchased from them for a long time
I mostly use my homemade recipe and just add a little of the others for variety - no real schedule

The crickets grow quickly. I have to buy at least twice a week; otherwise the small crickets get too big.
I have always had one 2.0 UVB light hanging from the ceiling shining through the screen tops.

Wow, this is fabulous information.
I love your recipe for cricket food, I may try that.
I currently feed my crickets produce (yes, yuck!), Repashy Superload, and Flukers thirst quencher fortified with calcium.
And like I said, I currently dust daily with the Repashy Calcium plus for my A callidryas

I like the schedule you have.... but, Josh's frogs accidentally sent me a 32 oz bag of the Repashy Calcium Plus (instead of the 8 oz container I ordered), and they said to just keep it
Which was super nice of them, but now I have this enormous bag of Repashy Calcium Plus!
How often would you recommend dusting with the Repashy Calcium Plus? And should I add the multi vit into the schedule? Should I add just calcium without phosphorous?
(sorry to hijack this thread with all of these questions).

Also, what do you do with your big crickets?

Repashy Calcium Plus - already has calcium; so there is no reason to add more Calcium.
(Sorry, I don't use this product )
