    Default Hey everyone

Whats going on everybody.. I'm new to frogs but not to aquariums. I have a spare 50g tank (48L x 18W x 13H) that is basically a short 75g. I've decided to use it to keep some frogs / toads. Fire Bellies are the easiest to acquire around here and I think they would be a good starter for me. My only issue is since they stay so small this is going to be a lot of tank for these guys. I was thinking of housing around 6. Since the tank is so large is there another type of frog I can keep in there as well? On youtube I see several videos of Fire Bellies being kept with a tree frog that is also available locally. If not I will probably divide the tank into 1/3 land and 2/3's water and have a few guppies, etc in the water.

Welcome! it's not typically advisable to have them in the same tank as any other frogs/toads because they secrete toxins and sharing a watering hole with another species could kill it. I'm not even sure guppies would be ok in the tank... If you go to the firebelly toad section on here, there's a thread about what are good tank mates with them. I love my FBT's!!

Welcome to the forum! As Adi said, it is generally advised not to cohabitate different species. Better off to just have the FBTs. :-)

Sounds good. I'll still plan for some fish but I'll only do the toads. I'll start a post in the FBT forum showing the building of the tank. Honestly is the 50g going to be complete overkill? I'll probably do 6 - 10 toads. The land area will be around 18" x 18" and the water area will be 30" x 18", with the water around 6" deep that will be around 14 gallons.

    Welcome to the forums!

I have 3 FBT in 20 gallons nad honestly, if I had a bigger one, I'd use it. They seem to absolutely love room.

With few exceptions, bigger is almost always better in my opinion. Unless there's a pressing reason not to do it, I say go for it. Your animals will thank you!
