Cool strange mark on my tree frog....

    Hello,
I received this guy in the mail almost a week ago, and he had a mark on his back (what i originally thought to be a bruise from the shipping and handling); over the past few days, it has been getting worse, and even looks like its got some puss on it. I'm not sure what this is. Has anyone else seen this before and might be able to tell me what it is? I'd appreciate it!!

Sorry your frog is hurting. Getting antibiotic for this asap is very important.

You could email Dr Frye. Send the photo with your email w/ a description of everything you know about what might have happened.
Dr Frye would be able to mail you a (topical ?) antibiotic appropriate for your red eyed tree frog . As well as tell you what to do while you are waiting for the delivery. It would not be expensive. His email address is here:
    http://www.frogforum.net/tree-frogs/...-prepared.html

It looks infected and painful. It’s difficult to know exactly what happened. The way the skin is hanging make me think perhaps he tore the skin on something sharp? Just in case you should check the enclosure very carefully for any possible culprits. ie metal on a fake plant? Keep the enclosure as clean as possible. The soaking dish should be changed every day ! NO soap but use the hottest water possible and wipe it vigorously with a clean paper towel. Then replace the water w/ clean de-chlorinated tap water. If he were mine I would put him in a hospital tank w/ dampened paper towels for substrate (changed daily – while your frog is sleeping )

    Check here:

Frog Forum - Basic Frog First Aid

for directions for topical antibiotic such as Neosporin ( WITH OUT PAIN RELIEVER !!!) Neosporin with pain reliever will kill your frog. Use a clean q-tip to gently apply it. Wash you hands before and after. Your frog is stressed from this. Feed him well ! Touch him only if absolutely necessary! Please be mindful that there are better choices to treat this than Neosporin , of which Dr Frye can mail to you.

Reading the information on both of these threads will help you prepare the supplies needed for a frog 'medicine cabinet'

    Hope this helps.
