Default New Theloderma Viv + re-doing old one

    Hi there!

As some of you might know I did manage to get myself a Theloderma gordoni a while back. I made him a viv with a background made of moss-covered Epiweb ( http://www.frogforum.net/vivarium-te...derma-viv.html ). I looked pretty good and all but I realised it had some drawbacks.
    1. It had some "pockets" in the back in wich my frog hid all the time. I almost never saw him. It's good that there was places he felt safe but I figured I could do that in some other way and still be able to see him more.
    2. He did not climb on the background. Not once. But the roaches I put in there for him did. So I figured he wanted more solid things to climb on.
    3. The roaches could easily hide and a few ones even managed to escape

I decided to make a new one.
This one is made from an aquarium and the background is made from a kind of foam used when building houses. On both sides there's some cork with small fake plants glued onto them.
The goal was to have a viv that's escape-free for both frog and feeders, easy for the frog to hunt food and good places to hide for the frog but still be seen. It works great so far!

As some bonus pictures I show you the old Theloderma-viv. I'm re-doing this the same way as the one above. Building foam and background and this one's got some holes in the bottom for some plants.
It's still alot of work left.

Great looking tank! I am working on a similar setup for my T. corticale with a waterfall built into the background. Are you planning on using a filtration system?

I'm not gonna use a filter in there. These guys live in small pools of water in hollow trees and rock formations in the wild so they don't need moving water.
I'm doing spot cleaning, removing poop and dead insects and I do small water changes now and then. This should keep the water quality right for him.

I'd love to see it when it's done.

nice set up. I would put some (oak) leaves into the water, that the frogs can hide under water, when disturbed. And also, because of the tanin.

What are you using as lid? Do you have a photo of the lid of your tank?

    Thanks!

I actually got some oak leaves in there now. The water is darker now and hopefully rich with tanins.

The lid I have right now is the plastic from a large picture frame. I'm gonna use something else eventually because it wasn't easy drilling holes in this one without getting cracks in it. Don't have any pictures, sorry.

I would suggest a forstner drill bit to avoid/help reduce the plastic cracking,

Would love to see how this tank grows in I'm looking at making a 3D background for my lot!
