All albino frogs are typically yellow and not pink because they are usually green, which means their dark pigments are blues and their light pigments are yellows. So, Im not sure where you are getting your information but you are a bit confused about it.
They are still not a true albino. True Albinos are extremely rare. referred to as albino and being albino are two different aspects. Albino Pacman are plentiful and never rare yellow forms anyway. Although if both parents carry the albino gene than it becomes past to the offspring, but not all will be Albinos if both parents are not and so on and so forth. The term Albino means that the animal lacks ALL COLOR PIGMENTS which these frogs do not. The pink or red eyes means nothing in this sence because they still have pigments of color in the skin.

If it were to be a large amount of dark color pigments then why is there none present?

Albinism is rare, unless of course somebody went ahead and decided to selectively breed for albinism, which is the case here with the albino pacman frog and every other albino reptile or ambphibian on the market. Its not rare because its bred for.

"If it were to be a large amount of dark color pigments then why is there none present?" because they arent Melanistic, They are albinos or albinoid or however you want to call it. A Melanistic frog would be blue with dark colored spotting, whereas an alnino or "albinoid" frog has yellow with reddish spots. The black eyed mutants have ABSOLUTELY no pigment in their skin, but they arent albinos because they have pigment in their eyes.

edit; Ive found the confusion and we are both wrong. The often called albino is merely amelanistic, meaning it LACKS dark pigments. It is not truly an albino but thats what they are called. You had confused melanism with amelanism. Melanism is ALL dark pigment.

Final answer, "albino" Horned frogs are amelanistic. Grif was correct but had confused melanism with amelanism.

Nevermind this post. I just realized that I'm getting the words mixed up. BAAAHHH!! I just got home from work and last night was really late.

Anyway, the term being Albino for these frogs is still wrong because albino means white and devoid of color pigments, but not all white animals are albino.

Thanks Ra for realizing my misuse of the correct term Lol!

And thank you for getting me to look further into it to find that most animals in the pet trade called albinos are actually amelanistic!

    You're welcome

I don't know most of the terms and color references, but will be looking into those further as well. The Albino Pacman Frog has been argued about many times so us kind of bickering back and forth about it is common Lol!
