I just wanted to mention that I had purchased 2 temperate springtail cultures from Josh's frogs a few months back.
They were a great buy. I started off with maybe a hundred or so in each culture and now have tens of thousands or more.
They are great in my big vivarium and I have not had any problems with mold. They are great little housekeepers.
Thanks Josh'sfrogs!

If you don't mind my asking, what type of frogs are in the viv where you have introduced the springtails? Tree frogs by any chance? Wondering b/c I've been contemplating the addition to my WTF's viv, but everything I read re: microfauna seems to be related to PDF's enclosures specifically...I would hate to add them if they might be harmful to my White's
I have red eyed tree frogs. The springtails stay in the substrate. They like it very moist. They don't bother my frogs at all. They help to break down decaying leaves, dead crickets and frog feces. This is also great for the plants.

cool thanks! can you post a picture of them?
Sure. They hide in the substrate but I can post you a pic of the others in the breeding colony. Is that okay?

Springtails float so when I tip they're container you can see them on the water. The green fuzzy things are moldy cheerios. They love them.

oh too cool I have a culture just starting as well cant wait till I get as many as you, cant believe how tiny they are XD
My springtail culture from Josh's frogs did that well, also! It doesn't take long, does it? Like a month maybe? I have also let mine die down to very little, and then easily increased the numbers back by increasing feedings. They are so easy to care for.
awesome! thanks
I agree. I have tons. I started with rice and now use cheerios and they multiply like crazy. The cheerios start growing mold in only a couple days.
