Ok so I've got two FBT's. I'm positive one is a male but not sure on the other one. My male (Shell) chirps a lot and has mounted the other one (Camo) quite a few times. I've heard camo make a fast chirping sound and then run away from Shell. I've read that both males and unwilling females will do this when a male mounts them (whatever that's called). So my question is... there's only 2 toads in there. If they were both male would Shell still be chirping and mounting Camo? If Camo were a male wouldn't he be chirping too? Does it sound like Camo is a girl?
some males chirp more than others
their main mating strategy is to mount anything that swims by hoping it's a receptive female
u deffo have 2 males
thanks for your input. I'm leaning towards camo being a male as well. Though s/he eats a lot so I'm also wondering if s/he's an adolescent and I'm not going to be able to sex them yet.
ONLY mature males will grab other toads to try to mate with them
Only one of my frogs are mounting. the same one chirps so I know he's a male. The other one never makes a sound except when mounted and doesn't mount anything. this sexing thing is hard!
is the quiet one really big and fat??
no they're about the same size but s/he was the smallest in the tank when my boys picked her/him out which makes me think s/he's still an adolescent with the eating a ton thing. S/he's definitely grown since we got him/her.
i have a real tiny mature male, will post pics later
