We got her in January 2013. She loves her bath, but wasn't too keen on picture taking. Funny, right after I took this picture she managed to jump out of the bath and somehow landed right in the small measuring cup that we use to poor water in them. She just went PLOP, all the water splashed out, and suddenly we had a cup full of frog! I'm not sure who was more surprised.

I saw the add for the Stolzmanni... very tempting!

Wow, looks like I came along and got into these frogs at the right time. It would be great to grow up a big old Aurita to 10 inches! That's probably unrealistic, not every frog is a giant female monster, but it would be cool anyway.

    Grif your Aurita looks awesome.

    Thank you!

According to Philippe de Vojoli there are 5 Sub-species of Ceratophrys aurita.

This particular sub-species of aurita does not reach that size sadly, but is a very nice frog. Color varies greatly among individuals with non having the same color scheme or pattern. This one is from Kim Thomas' stock. Each Sub-species has their own location in Brazil so I'm sure diet and climate conditions greatly influence the growth of the Giant Horned Frog which hasn't been seen in years. Of course when I was younger I can remember everything grew larger than it does now so perhaps their potential size has decreased over the years since its discovery in the 1800s. We may never know for sure.

According to Kim this Sub-species only reaches a max of about 6" and like other species most don't reach that size.
