Ok, For about a week now I've been sweating bullets about my pacman frog, Bulbasaur. A while back he was impacted, and until yesterday I thought he passed his impaction.I did move him to a smaller enclosure inorder to help him find his food easier(at the time, crickets) because I noticed him not being able to catch them, and they would wonder too far away from him. So yesterday I gave him a 1:10 perilyte solution soak to try and get him to feed again and to my surprise he had a bowel movement almost as big as him! . It's been about a week since he last ate and the only thing he's eaten is one waxworm. I've offered crickets, nightcrawlers, waxworms and even silk worms. Nothing seems to work. He also stays buried most of the time. We're not talking a little buried, we're talking so buried that it looks like I have a pet water dish, he completely dissapears. He used to come out and sit around at night but now, nothing. He just stays buried 24/7. I even tried the "Tong feeding 102" video, and that worked one time with the waxworm. But since then, nothing.
Does anyone have an idea as to what is wrong or what I should do? I'm still very concerned about him. Any help you guys/gals can give would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
Pic of him and his home... temps... humidity.... how old/big is he? we need these details to have any idea what could be going on.
Temp stay between 78 and 80. Humidity is almost always between 65%-80%. He's about 2 inches, maaaaybe 2.5. I'll upload a pic as soon as I get home. But for now, he's in a 11.75"L x 7.75"W x 8"H critter keeper with a water bowl and the mushroom/tree hide thing from his first enclosure. The thing that stumps me is that he used to be a great feeder, even more so than my T (and that's saying something). Then he just up and stopped eating and coming out all together.
just tried the methods used in the "tong feeding 102" video again with the same results, no intrest in anythingI(Waxworms, and earthworms(used to be his favorite)). He just kept turning away from the food and buried himself deeper.
You should try tong feeding him while hes in bath time.. just a shallow soak and a snack. but as long as his weight is good give him time.. also could he be getting a draft it could explain the changes, he could be getting hotter or cooler and drier and trying to aestivate.
Just a regular soak.. he ate while in the cage hes in or the ten you started with... ? also do you have seran wrap on the critter keeper to help with the humidity?
He's eaten the one wax worm while he's been in the new tank. I don't have seran wrap over it, should I just put it on half or...What?
2/3 i would think... if he was eating good in the other tank why change to the critter keeper?... the set up was fine except for the moss! as long as he was doing good in it...
He ate!! I soaked him in warm water and like magic he started biting at the slightest movement. He was able to down a pretty big nightcrawler. Thank you sooooo much for your help. Virtual bear hug incoming!! *Bear Hug*
glad it worked... I would feed him like that.. if he is 2 plus inches every other day or so feeding is good and a soak doesnt hurt either... just feed as much as he wants every two days or so... some days he'll eat lots some he might not want any.. and that way there is no impaction risk.
Having the top of the critter keeper open is causing a draft and he's looking humidity. Cover the top except cut a whole in the top where the little clear lid is and leave the vents open on the short sides so there is air circulation. Like Jim said if he will eat in the bath do it that way from now on. Jim knows his stuff.
Just an update. He is now back in his original 10 gallon with some live pothos and moss(I tong feed him) to keep the humidity up. It's already much easier to maintain the humidity now that I've got moss and live plants. He's staying buried most of the time. Is this normal? I understand that he'll be stressed from the move but is this going to last long or will he get acclimated to the new enclosure and come out more? Anyway, just glad he ate. Feels like things are back to normal againThanks for you help everyone, virtual bear hugs incoming!
