I haven't heard Monster make any noises ever since I got him, except for one night when he got out and was cornered by the cat he made some odd noise. I specifically wanted male so that I could hear him sing. I've gotten another one recently that I was assuming is female, but still no noises.
How exactly do you tell the difference? :/ If I need specific types of photos to show you let me know..here's what I have so far..
Monster:
Newbie (Doesn't have a name yet):
Now this is the only pic I could get because this one does not like to sit still and is rather hyper
Every time I tried to get a pic of his/her back it'd jump away so the best description I can give is that I'm not seeing much difference from this one and monster other than this one is much much larger and rounder. Nice thick plump arms and legs.
I did hear rumor that you can tell the difference by picking them up above their thighs as if one toad is grabbing the other, the male makes noise female doesn't. I didn't want to do this for very long because it seemed so mean so when I did it neither made a noise but Monster vibrated a bit, I didn't hear any noise though :/.
they both appear male
they may take a few days to act like males
my female also makes a vibrating noise if she is unreceptive and grabbed
females have real skinny front legs and i think i see nuptial pads![]()
Well it's definitely been confirmed for me now! I just caught Monster (male) humping Mercy (the newbie) and she was definitely letting him! There was no barking or "Get off" motion of any sort!! It was quite a shock when I walked in my room and caught them in the act lol!
lol! Oh wow, I bet that was a sight to see. Glad you found out though (and was right all along!) I was wondering the same thing earlier (how to determine gender.) I was eyeballing the 8 firebellies the pet store had earlier today (all crammed in a 10 gallon tank ;_and couldn't see any differences in them. Guess I'll pick out the ones that look/eat the best and try to determine from there later on, as to what they are. If they start doing this, at least then I'll know for sure!

Everything that I've been reading on how to sex these dang frogs keeps getting thrown out the window! I would have said the first one you pictured was female because of the lack of webbing and really long toes and the second to be a male because of the webbing and shorter toes. oi!
I'm looking again and I see the webbing on the first pic. is your newbie still acting like a female? I'm pretty sure my Camo is a male but he never chirps (except when my Whammy mounts him). Though he does let Whammy hang on for awhile before chirping to make him let go and they snuggle together a lot, lol
