    Default RIP: Tyr, 2010-2012

Went to feed Tyr this evening and as usual I had to do some searching to find him as he has oodles of hiding spots. Sadly, when I did finally locate him, he was lying on the ground with his face pushed into a corner, his legs hanging loosely to the sides, and no longer alive.

This came as a pretty big shock. Everything had seemed just peachy up to this. Apart from his deformed left hand of course, which never developed properly and was the reason I took him in from the wild nearly two years ago. He just wasn't as agile as a fully formed frog, so we figured his chances in the wild were slim at best. There had been no changes in his diet, activity, or droppings, or really anything that I can think of. I'm hoping that given his birth defect he just 'wasn't right', but he had made it 2 years so I really dunno what to say.

He was always more secretive and jumpy than my other Grays, and hence very few pictures of him exist. Honestly I didn't even see him nearly as often as my other frogs. I usually let his tank stay in a fairly overgrown state, he fell off stuff fairly often when jumping from one place to the other (that messed up hand really made a difference), so more plants meant less distance to fall. Even so, his tank seems kinda sad and lonely now when I look at it and know that it's empty. What a difference a wee little frog can make, even if you can't usually see him.

He's my first frog casualty and undoubtedly not the last. If it ever gets any easier to lose a frog, I suppose I wouldn't want to keep them anymore. Rest in peace my little one armed friend, hope you've found your way to Froggy Valhalla.

That's too bad.. I'm sorry to hear that your frog died. I can say that you probably prolonged his life to be much longer than what it might have been in the wild and it sounds like you did your best to keep him comfortable as possible. The thought of froggy Valhalla is awesome.. just imagine, bearded viking frogs. I hope he finds his way there too.

I wouldn't feel bad about it. If you got him from the wild, it's very likely he simply died from old age.

I'm sorry for your loss. You gave him a much better chance then he ever would have gotten in the wild. Your feeling are of course natural as most people see them as an insignificant creature in this world people like use see something more and even a friend.

Once again I am truly sorry. RIP Tyr.

He would have been 2 years old this summer. When we picked him up he was tiny enough that we were sure it was his first year. If a frog had made it to adulthood in the wild with a gimped leg like Tyr had, I would have definitely left it alone.

You gave him a wonderful life (like others stated, I do believe he wouldn't have made it nearly as long in the wild.) He was loved, absolutely nothing to feel bad about - it was his time. I too love the idea of Frog Valhalla, I bet he's there now rocking out and having a blast

Sorry to hear it, man If he didn't survive under your care he wouldn't have survived with anyone, and certainly wouldn't have made it 2 years in the wild!

    Sorry to hear this.
Perhaps there was some additional birth anomaly?

As a norse, I can confirm he's living the good life with the true gods right now, awating the next Ragnarrök, where he will once again battle the giants, equipped with valour and fighting for glory.

He was a beautiful frog indeed. Your pictures of him in your album are truly amazing.
