How many of you guys here use filters with your fire bellies?

Do you leave them on all the time or are they on a timer or anything?

I'm thinking of using a air foam filter as apparently they disturb the occupants less?

I have a regular filter that is on all the time. It doesn't see, to both them. I have it behind the waterfall so it is out of sight. Check my 2nd build log

A filter is one option, but a lot of people opt for biological filtration options in lieu of a filter, which can pose a danger (moving parts) to the frogs if they are able to access it. As long as there is moving water there should be sufficient air-loving (aerobic? anaerobic?) bacteria to filter biologically, provided regular water changes (partial changes only, through siphoning). In this way, you are only removing the mechanical filtration aspect of the filter (which you can include if you include filter floss or some other sieve material in the water flow pattern). Good luck!

It was just made apparent to me that a sponge filter won't do anything about the toxins anyhow so I think I'll get a normal filter. It will have to be a really small/slim one though as I'm only having the water section a few inches deep.

It's going to be a fully planted tank with land and aquatic plants so I'm hoping that biological filtration will play a big part eventually.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm pretty sure I have most of the info I need so I'll be sure to post pics when I've finished building it, but I expect that will be in a month and a half or so.

Look forward to seeing it! I plan on trying to hide my filter behind some plants or something similar, it's gonna be similar to a small one I had in my old fish tank (it's super quiet and easy to fit in a corner.) There will be less water in it than in the tank too, so I think it'll work just fine. Hopefully I'll have mine together by Mon-Tues!
