I am worried that my Map Treefrog is not eating. I put 5 crickets in the vivarium with him 3 days ago and at least 3 are still in there. I've had the frog less than a week. Is this normal. Should I be worried about him?
Humidity is 75% to 100%. He has water and places to climb. I mist him twice a day.
Perhaps he's still adjusting to the new environment. If you've had him less than a week and he's perhaps eaten 2 crickets I don't think you need to panic jus yet!
Someone else might jump in with differing ideas though.
My first frog was a bit fussy at the begining so i discovered that they dont touch their food if its been in the tank for more than 24 hours. So i had to take out old food and put in new to temp it.
I could be totally wrong with this but it seemed to work for me, for some reason. Also i agree, its probs just a little shaken up.
But maybe and i am certainly no expert but maybe your humidity is slightly to high?
How often are you getting readings of 100%? Is it possible that you're misting right onto or above the hygrometer?
It's a digital hygrometer. I've seen it at 100% once, so maybe that was the case. It is usually 75% to 80%.
Will he starve himself if I don't change his food up? I certainly dont want him to do that.
Its a tough one but i think hes just too wet. Try to vary the humidity throughout the day instead of always being around 75-80.(50 to 80 throughout day works for me) I had the exact same problem with my first frog too, but he survived in the end. Trick is not to worry, something i do alot. Also, the changing food around thing might not work for yourself. The reptile shop owner suggested i do that.
Interesting, so they wont eat if they are too wet? I will try that and see if he starts to eat.
Actually, looking in there now, I see a fish missing. He may have eaten one of them...
Rainforest types, like Hypsiboas geographicus can never be too wet. Dry maybe but not wet.
Also very true, they are from the 'rain' forest after all. This is just my own experience with my particular frog. He hated being completely wet all the time and wouldnt eat when he was. Every frog is different
Im pretty sure he ate a neon tetra. I can't find one of them in there. He also isnt hiding as much today, as he is stuck on the wall instead of under the moss like before. I think maybe he got over being scared last night.
