My daughter is frog (and lizard, and bug, etc.) obsessed. She caught a small green tree frog in the yard and I've finally agreed that she can keep it as a pet if we can do so in a way that's healthy for the cute little thing. I have to say (shhhhh, don't tell her I said this) I'm quite tickled with the little guy myself! I'm hoping to learn how to build the proper vivarium for him, feed and care for him properly and perhaps even get another frog or two ....down the line again, lets keep that to ourselves for now, lol....she'd drive me insane if she thought I was caving to her obsession! Anyway, that's us, that's why we here, thanks!

To build a proper home for your little guy you'll need to know what type of frog he is.

Most importantly, you'll need to get some dechlorinating drops for all of his water. You can find this in the reptile/amphibian and fish sections of any store. Have you ever had fish before?

Congrats on your new frog. If you think you'd like more frogs, you may want to let this cute wild fella go and get a couple of captive bred ones . They do better with tolerating us humans and tend to have less diseases. Either way, we will help guide you if you'd like .

We've never had frogs before, many years ago, before I had the kids, I kept water dragons, iguanas, various snakes and a quite large monitor, but never a frog. I'll try to get and post some pics, but he looks like a pretty standard issue green tree frog, green, sticky little toes, no markings, about 3/4 of an inch long, but admittedly this is NOT my area of expertise, so I'll put up pics as soon as I figure out how to, lol. I don't think I need to dechlorinate the water because ours isn't chlorinated, we're on a well system, filtered, but only treated with salt to soften the water, though I am not sure how that might affect mr. baby frog. We looked to purchase a frog, but no place nearby sells them and the shipping on an ordered frog makes it a bit unreasonable cost wise for me, by the time I pay shipping, I've paid $50 (about $6 for the frog and then $35-45 for the necessary shipping precautions associated with shipping a live animal, and since I live in FL apparently some places won't ship to me right now due to the heat in our area and the *justifiable* concern that a frog won't survive the heat for the trip) for a green tree frog, that she just caught in the backyard, though, I'm sure there are nuances and concerns that come with finding one as opposed to buying one. I'd really love to give this one a try though, and to be honest we've already gotten quite attached to "Isabella" *ugh, seven year olds should NOT get to name the frog, lol. I so appreciate the forum already, I've been exploring and reading the posts and I'm learning a lot, thank you so much! *I cannot believe how much information there is here~

I'm quite wild about the little thing, we've just gotten back from the pet store with a bag full of tiny crickets, some calcium dust, and some moss- thank you for the proper name- I wouldn't have known it, now when begging for help, I'll know how to refer to our new little friend.

My love of frogs started with red eyed tree frogs. Then I found that creating their homes was just as enjoyable. It's nice having people here that love frogs such as much as we do. This is a great place to share stories and pictures and you'll learn so much .
