Hey there,
This may be in the wrong place but I wasn't sure where to post this question. I have recently rescued a small whites tree frog (Green Tree Frog) from a man I was purchasing a lizard off. The little juvenile is incredibly skinny and was in a bare, unheated tank when I got him. I have moved him home and heated him up but he simply will not eat. He seems lethargic and uncoordinated. The general response from my searches through the forum was a pedialyte soak, unfortunately pedialyte unflavoured is not available in Australia and I am getting desperate. I can order it online but I am worried it won't arrive in time.
Does anyone have a substitute for pedialyte I can give him in the meantime?
Thanks so much!
Flick.
Hi,
I found this on Melbourn Hospital/ pediatric area online.
Gastrolyte,Hydralyte, Pedialyte and Repalyte
Kids Health Info
see "Clear fluids"
If they are identical ? it should be ( unflavored ) a 1:10 ( pedi: distilled water)
I think you should find a vet asap . Keep him separate form the others animals, of course
I'm sorry he is sick
You could PM Kristen. However, I think she in the Melbourne area?

I had the same problem when my frogs were sick. I found Hydralyte, but couldn't find it unflavoured. Infact I dont think they make it unflavoured. Here is an ingredient list for it http://www.hydralyte.com/pdf/products.pdf (No unflavoured is listed there, so I assume there isn't one)
If she won't make it in time for the pedialyte to arrive, maybe take him to a herp vet?
Do you know if he was eating at the previous owners house? Maybe he isn't eating because he went from an unheated home straight into a heated one? I'm not really sure.
Good luck! And good on you for taking him in![]()
Pedialyte is just a commercial thing, easy to make it you're own.
It's just a mixture of Natriumchloride (salt) and glucose (sugar) in the right dose.
This saline/glucose solution should be 0,9%.
You can make this by getting 1 L of warm water and put in 9 grams of Natriumchloride (just table salt is fine, as long as it doesn't contain iodine wich will be written on it when it contains iodine)
and 9 grams of glucose (or sugar if glucose isn't readily available).
Mix it in good, and let it settle to reach room temperature.
Put in you're frog for about 10-15 minutes.
It will do the same thing, only at a fraction of the costs.
Thank you so much! You saved my frog!
