Question Having Difficulties Sexing Whites Tree Frogs.

I have 3 WTF's, and I thought I had a handle on how to sex them, but apparently I don't.

I bought my first 2 as babies, they're blue colored phase WTF's and I believed that I had 1 male and 1 female. After having them for a couple of months, one of them would start to call, often, and the other wouldn't. Clear indication of sex right? I picked up my 3rd one day when I was in a pet store and saw one being housed incorrectly. It kinda made me sad to see it in that condition so I took it home, watched it for a while to make sure it was healthy and then put it in with the others. It didn't make any calls when the other one was, so I thought I had 2 females and the one male.

Jump forward a couple of months, and one night I hear my male barking as usual and then I hear another bark in the tank. Then I saw the rescue barking even louder than the the first male I had. He's a bit older than the first two I got, but I guess he was just being quite for the first few months until he got accustomed to his new environment and fattened up a bit. So, I figured I had 2 males, and the one female.

Tonight, I hear 2 frogs barking again, and I see my supposed female barking just as loud as my supposed males. "Wok! Wok! Wok! Wok!" for about 10 seconds. She was turned away so I couldn't tell if she was using a throat sac.

So I figured I have all males until I did some research from these sites: Breeding White's Tree Frog and White
Both pages assure me that females will call, but not as loud or often as males. One page says that they only call when they're being bothered or interacting with other frogs like being crawled on. One says they will but don't use a throat sac. One page says the only way to really sex them is to check for nuptial pads, but you have to cycle them first or they won't develope them. I found another site that says you can check for nuptial pads after 9 months regardless if they have been cycled or not.

I'm at a loss. Can somebody fill me in on how to accurately tell the difference between males and females, and what is up with their calling? Do females call just as loudly as the males, just without a throat sac? Do they have to be cycled before you can check for nuptial pads?

I'm getting tired of renaming them to gender appropriate nomenclature

I know with my whites tree frogs the females have a white throat and the males have a brown throat from their vocal sack. Plus the male is noticeably smaller than my females.

Not sure if it will, but I hope that helps.

I'll check them when I get a chance and see if they're different at all. Considering that all of my specimens vary in color from blue to green to brown I'm not sure if it will be an accurate way to tell. They're also not full grown, so checking for size is out. I really need to know if you can check for nuptial pads before cycling them and if the females call is similar to the males or not.
