im planning on upgrading my FBT's enclosure and was wondering that when i fix my acrylic panels into my tank is it neccessary to glue them together first then silicone the joins?
Also what are the safest silicones and glues to use? I live in the UK too so may not get some brands that are available to youselves in other countries, but if you let me know the necessary guidelines i should be able to figure it out from there?
im so excited to start this little project my ideas are running through my mind at like 248793845 miles pre hour! haha![]()
Thanks for reading fellow frog&toads lovers!
p.s. also any other hints and tips will be much appreciated!
Hi Ribbity...I noticed no one has answered so I'll chime in with my teeny tiny bit of knowledge.
You can purchase silicone in the plumbing department at the hardware store (home improvement store? what do you guys call it in the UK?) There is a brand called DAP that is clearly labeled "aquarium safe" or "animal safe." Or you can go to the Aquarium section of the pet store and look for aquarium silicone. Beyond that I don't know what types people use.
Also, I'm not clear on what you're trying to divide. Are you doing a simple land/water divisiion? Do you want the land area completely water-proof and sealed off from the water portion? That may require a glue AND a silicone, but I'm not certain. Or do you want the water from the water section to run underneath the land section as well?
From what I can gather, there are a few different ways to do it. Your land portion could be completely elevated from the water portion, with a slope that the frogs can wander down, like a frog beachOr you could have it all on the same level, but divided.
I only know this because I've been researching it a bit lately. Haven't done it yet. Hopefully soon someone will have more info.
Good luck!
thank you for your input toni!
Sorry if this is a late reply but i've been busy out and about. im trying to re-create a rainforest effect for my toads. and well i want the land part to be completely water tight so i can moderate how much water my plants will get so they dont drown basically.
I really want to create a curvy land space that looks natural and am sturggling massively on how to create this, as in what materials and mediums to use. i was thinking acryllic but with that i cannot create that specific curve im trying to create? so im looking at other options yet i dont want to be ruining my tank at the same time if you catch my drift.
and with glues, if i do need to use one what glue would i need to use?
i find this quite frustrating at times cause i know what i want yet am not clear on how to create the look i am after, yet i see other people have done theirs amazingly and i wonder... how on earth have you managed to create such an amazing tank? haha
thanks for your input it has helped alot!![]()
