When we first got our FBTs we decided to use up some of the earthworms we had in the fridge for fishing. I made my husband cut them into segments - 3rds or 4ths, depending on how big the worms were, and dropped them right in front of the toad's faces (they're scared of my hands too). Then as soon as the worm wriggled a little the toads all gobbled them up, and they seemed to love them! Now we go with crickets, waxworms and earthworms with no issues. As long as each worm piece isn't too big, I'm sure you'll be fine.

I also used to cut the worms up into smaller pieces but once I started raising my own worms I just pick out the smaller worms and they have no problems eating them.
