Hi, I'm Emma and I am the proud new owner of three fire-bellied frogs, Harry, William and CharmingI'm here to learn more about Fire Bellies and help them live happy and healthy lives. And spoil them like crazy.
This is their tank (not sure of the size, maybe 40 gallons?):
This is William and Harry (they love swimming around until they find the sweet spot, then hanging out there):
This is Charming (the sexy one):
I only have three so far, I'm still learning how to tell them apart and take care of them. I hope to have more soon. I'm also thinking they need more land area in the tank (they like swimming around but we underestimated how far 50lbs of stones would go!), some moss perhaps, and I'd like to get one of those filter/waterfall deals to help clean the water.
Anyway it's great to be here.![]()
Hello and welcome to Frog Forum! Very nice introduction! I like the set up. Its definitely better than my first set up hehe. Glad to hear your love for frogs, i wish EVERYONE who acquired them would join a forum so they can learn. There are PLENTY of very helpful people on this website! Love the pictures too. I had a Fire Belly when i was young. I guess I can say it was my first frog.
Welcome! I have studied everything to know about fire belly toads so I am definitely the person to talk to. So first of all I noticed that you had a fish tank lid, that is probably not the best idea for a lot of reasons, I would highly recommend getting a terrarium lid (a lid with tiny little holes in it so the toad can breath)
Also the tank looks somewhere around 20-30 gallon.
Thanks guys! I worried about the breathing thing a little too, but it doesn't fit all the way over, it has an inch-or-two gap in it that we can optionally close up with a plastic seal. We closed it up at first but the tank got really fogged up and I started to worry, so now we keep that part open except for feeding time. The average temperature in there in the daytime is 80 and the humidity is around 80 too. I will be looking for a screen lid though, since neither pet store we went to had big enough ones in stock! My tank is (in inches) 36long x 18wide x 17tall so no clue what that equates to in gallons (I'm a litres gal at heart). I keep wanting to change around their habitat and buy them new stuff so I think my nesting instinct is kicking in haha![]()
You need to get a terrarium lid as soon as possible. Since the lid doesn't cover the whole tank, the fire belly toads can climb up the walls and get out. I know it sounds crazy but it's true. Also if you go to Petco then they have a big variety of terrarium lids, well the one where I live does. I researched some lids for you and the best match I found was this one Zilla 11513 Fresh Air Screen Cover, 36-Inch by 18-Inch: Amazon.com: Pet Supplies
Wow that looks awesome! The little buggers do like to climb don't they![]()
I'm glad I could help.![]()
Im not sure if they make normal lids for a 40 breeder tank but its something worth looking into. I have the same tank but ended up trading it off lol. nice setup though![]()
