Default My PAC man frog is in serious trouble!

I have a green and black normal pac man frog, under his belly it started swelling almost to the size of his body. Its rock hard and you can see veins... his butt is also puffed out alot and is very red on his back legs but it doesnt have a red thing sticking out. i dont know if its a virus or what? i went on vacation for 4 days and my brother over watered the entire habitat, it was like a swimming pool. he also left a couple dead crickets in the cage for a good couple days. I dont know if that has anything to do with it, but please help.

sounds/looks like a mix if impaction, and bacterial growth, you may need a anti bacterial agent from the vet. Warm water baths, and a cleanout of the cage can help, but if the bacteria is bad enough to show signs, its going to need help from a vet. What is the temp like in the tank? and humidity? what sub-straight are you using? I hope your frog gets well soon

I was gonna say the same thing about the water, perhaps he did not prep the water before using it.

I'm going to go ahead and say take the frog to a Herp Vet. It may need actual meds to assist the poor frogs recovery.

Even if you don't have a herp vet around a regular vet would probably prescribe baytril or another antibiotic... You probably want to get something for it ASAP to keep it from getting any worse.

You can't buy baytril but you can get Tetracycline. I would suggest tetracycline be given orally and not as a soak. The dose for Tetracycline is 50mg per 2.2 lbs of body weight, so you'll have to do the math, every twelve hours for a week.

I was going to ask the same thing...Did he use dechlorinated water? Soak him in freshly dechlorinated water to dilute the possible chlorine exposure. Make new dechlorinated water to use, it may help to covert any chlorine absorbed.

I agree, give the vet a buzz.
