    Default Food bowls for treefrogs

    Hi all,

A quick question here about feeder bowls. I know a lot of people use these and I want to try them for my callidryas, but have been running into problems. Firstly, I tried a deep, glass bowl (as I have seen here). However, the frogs don't 'see' the glass and try to attack through it. Then I moved to a deep, opaque bowl. The frogs don't see the crickets and don't feed. Then I tried a shallower, opaque bowl. The crickets then escape by making a living pyramid and pulling themselves out, or jumping. A final problem, I have is that, when using these dishes, the frogs do come down to feed on the crickets that haven't yet escaped, but one frog hogs the bowl and doesn't allow the others to feed. For each of the 6 tanks, there is one frog that does this.

Has anyone got any tips for either a good model of bowl or a way of teaching frogs to climb into the glass bowl, rather than trying to eat through it?

    Cheers

    C

I use a tea cup I level it with the subtrait. the tea cup is white so the crickets stand out and if they escape eventually they make it back to the cup . I put it next to the water bowl because my frog likes to sit on the edge and can't help but see the crickets . About the bully frog eating all the crickets I watched a video on you tube of a guy feeding his left's and he'd feed one at a time untill the bully frog lost interest then he'd place another cricket for the others to eat. Also I've heard of people taking their frogs to seperate feeding tank untill it got more confident at hunting. Hope this helps

Are there any "perches" above the bowl so they can get a good hunting spot? I have branches that run across the tank right above the bowl, about 4-5 inches above it.

That's funny about them trying to attack "through" the glass. Poor little guys. Let us know if you find a good tea cup. Tea n' Crickets anyone?

i used a piece of driftwood right next to mine. they sat up on that and watched crickets inside the bowl every night. then id wake up and most of the crickets would be gone and the frogs would be fat and happy on the side of the tank. when i took my driftwood out (bc of worms) and only had the clear pyrex bowl in there, they wouldnt touch em. they would sit on the ground and see the crickets but wouldnt attempt to climb inside. so i think something next to the bowl that they can climb on will definitely help.

mine always had calcium powder on their noses so i know they were in there

I use a clear glass bowl with a design in the glass. It sets under a snake plant leaf. They perch on it ready to leap in.
