I'm not really happy with the way Orion has been eating, or not eating to be more precise. I have only seen him actually eat twice since I've had him (since July, 13th). Once was a cricket and the other time was a red wiggler. I toss three or four crickets in the tank right after I put him to "bed". When I get up the next morning, no crickets. I've looked in hiding spots and behind the foam background, but the crickets appear to be gone. Problem is I don't know if they are excellent hiders or if Orion is gobbling them up during the night.
The previous pac I had would grab anything you stuck in front of him. Not this guy. I have tried several times (at least 2x a day) to tong feed him night crawlers, roaches, horned worms, etc and he doesn't seem interested. I've tried just dropping it in front of him, but the worms begin burrowing, or the roaches run off and hide without Orion even attempting to lunge at it.
Orion seems to get spooked very easily. Any time I reach in with a food item dangling via the tongs he just hunches down no matter how much I try to sneak up on him.
On a positive note he did poop last Friday night and it was a healthy looking poo, so that made me feel a little better.
So, here are my questions:
1) What can I do to induce a better appetite (never thought I'd ask that about a Pac)?
2) How long does it take for them to generally settle in?
3) Should I continue to try to tong feed him?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
