    Default Anyone know about tadpoles?

I was at the pet store the other day picking up some gold fish for my pixie frog and I found a huge tadpole in the gold fish tank. So I brought it home to see what breed for frog it is. If I knew how to upload pictures I would. It's about 2" and is brow with black spots and a longer tail. I have never seen a tadpole so big. How do I take care if it? Its my first time trying to raise a tadpole. It looks like a bull frogs tad pole.

I'll try to hunt up a list for tadpole care, I know I saw someone post one on here recently. Also, just an FYI, don't put him in with your pixie, he could give him parasites or fungus that he cant get used to. I did that one time and luckily no ill effect, but not worth it As far as your pictures, private message me, and I'll walk you through it. I set up a Photobucket account, and it works great

What I do is use a 10 gal. with an air pump, some plants to hide in, and clean algae if you dont have access to that I've used shrimp pellets mine seem to like them. hope this helps
Ps: I got 2 tads that way and one was a bullfrog but the bigger one oddly enough was a leopard frog and they both a growing into nice frogs now using the method I mentioned above

I bought some fish flakes and i saw it snacking on that last night. i have it in one of those small beta fish bowls.. i think i should upgrade it to something bigger maybe with rocks so when it grows legs it can hop around. i didnt even think about some plants for it to hide in. thats probably why its swims around like crazy trying to hide when it sees something. thank you for the advice.

Another great food is boiled romaine lettuce. Don't get the kind with cabbage though. Boil it in dechlorinated water for about 20 minutes until it looks wilty. Then cool and serve . You can also freeze it in ice cube trays. Just squoosh it into the cube holes until full and add a bit of the boiled water.

Another great food choice is dried seaweed from the fish food section. They also sell tadpole bites, usually in the reptile section.

Be sure to dechlorinate their water.

    Any pictures?

If you have a cell phone there is an app calked tapatalk you can use and you can load phone pics up easily. There is also a way to add them from your computer. Look at the intro area here. I believe there are instructions on how to do it there. I've done it before. I use my phone 99% of the time.

thank you. i hope to figure out how to use this soon! and then i will let you know how the tadpole is doing and what it turns into i will be getting a bigger tank for my pixie frog and so then the tadpole will be getting the 10 gallon tank. i think i will put some small rocks in there so it will have somewhere to go when it does get legs and some plants or something. this is beginning to be a big project but i am not complaining.. if there is any other ideas that i can use to help the little guy survive let me know. please and thank you

A simple set up is best. Filter, dechlorinated water, few rocks on a slope and some water plants. I put liquid calcium drops in mine when I did water changes. I only put in one dropper full, not the normal recommendation. You don't have to though. They get some calcium from the foods you provide. Do a partial water change every week and especially at the 2, 3, and 4th week because you'll have a bacterial bloom. After that, the stink and cloudiness will slow down and you can do biweekly water changes. The "good" bacteria will then live in your filter and rocks, and they will aide in breaking down fecal matter and left over food. Oh yeah, they can also nibble zucchini.
