    Default White's Dumpy Treefrog Vivarium

Like I said in my intro post in the other section of the forum, I have a Whites and an extra 10 gallon tank.

I'd like to give him a larger space using the ten gallon and just need to know... everything... about turning the tank in to a vivarium. The easiest way for a 19 year old girl to understand. (I admit, I can be a little dense sometimes!) If anyone could give me complete step-by-step directions, you'd be a life saver.

As far as live plants and WTFs go, what are some suggestions? What kind of soil is good for the live plants and will be fine for my frog? My second issue is, if I convert my ten gallon to a vertical vivarium, won't the lights get too hot sitting on the glass at the top (I don't have a hanger for my lights)? Can I get a specific list of everything I need? (I really have no idea what I'm doing with any sort of DIY things, never done it before!)

Hi Xipho, Welcome to the Forum. The best place to learn about White's care is Kurt's article in the Care Sheet section, Frog Forum - White's Tree Frog Care - Litoria caerulea. You can make the enclosure as simple as you want or as detailed as you want. I would start out simple, then as you explore the forum and see examples of what others have done then you can expand and experiment. You might want to consider getting a larger tank, however, if you think that you might get another frog. Petco's $1 per gallon is on until this Saturday. Read the Housing section in Kurt's article and if you anymore questions give a holler.

Hello xipho, I have a Green Tree Frog so I would assume the care, setup, etc. would be similar. Here is a picture of my setup that I have put together in the past 2 days:

    Name: FroggerTank.jpg
Views: 6652
Size: 22.3 KB Name: HangingLight.jpg
Views: 3029
Size: 56.4 KB

As you can see in the second picture, I have a shelf above my tank. I hung the light from that so it is not directly on the tank, which helps with regulating the temperature. If it gets too hot, I can hang it closer to the shelf, and vice versa. You might want a backdrop like I have. It is simply just green paper. I printed it onto 5 sheets of photo paper and taped them on the back, works like a charm. Let us know if you have any other questions!

I would never get another frog, partly because of my current amount of animals and partly because the PetCo here takes terrible care of their animals and has even worse costumer service. As far as my question went, I wanted to know plants that could go with my frog and a general idea of creating my own vertical vivarium. I've got everything else down. The housing section didn't answer my plant question. His set up is fine, I was considering moving him to the ten gallon mostly because I had it sitting around and felt like DIYing. I'm just going to set up some live plants in his current tank and re-do his other decorations.

Oh, very nice! Thats a great idea, but I cant move my light from where it is on his current setup. His tank is the only heat source in my room. It's a constant 65° because of my Chinchillas, so his corner is the warmest place in my room!

Here is a link to how i kept my WTFs. I lake a larger bromeliad alone with some snake plant. Both plants hold the frogs weigh as the frog gets larger and the Bromeliad holds water and needs not soil to thrive in a tank as ling as its watered and has adequate lighting.

If you looking to build a vertical tank, you will need to keep in mind that your WTF will need ventelation so adding in a screen near the top and one down low is needed.

Here is a link to some vertical tanks I did.
