    Default New frog

I am new to amphibians and I just got a new albino horned(Pacman) frog. I have been researching green Pacman frogs for about three weeks, but I chose to buy a cute albino instead. I was wondering if there is any additional information that anyone can provide for me that is different between albinos and green Pacman frogs in caring for them and such. I would be so pleased if you could do this for me .... thank you!

Albinos are extra sensitive to bright light and UVB Radiation. You must avoid any daylight and basking spotlight lamps. You can only use night time bulbs like Infrared bulbs, Moonlight blue bulbs, and lightness bulbs like CHE(Ceramic Heat Emitters). Never exceed 50 watts with heat bulbs except CHE, you can use a 60 watt safely. With any Pacman Frog when you use a lamp make sure it has a dimmer switch so you can accurately adjust the amount of light and heat produced by the bulb.

Thank you somuch for your reply! I use a ceramic heat emitter... and I waswondering if I were to get a heat mat/pad I would stick it to the side am Icorrect? (Because frogs burrow to cool off and not to become warmer (right?)

Yes place the UGH(Under Tank Heater) on the side of the tank on the opposite side from the water dish.

They are nocturnal so you'll feed them at night. You will need to provide a 12 hour day/night cycle so 12 hours of day and 12 of night. So 7:00 Am to 7:00 pm or 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

So my friend, who has a bearded dragon, told me she uses a "food mix" (from thiswebsite) http://www.samurep.jp/food.htmland they also have a "food mix" for pacman frogs. I was wondering if this food would be nutritious enough to feed to a pacman (but i would neverfeed my baby anything that would not be good for her), so please give me your opinion on this!

So what would you think (mainly to know if it is safe for my friends bearded dragon)? I know this website sells pacman frogs too, I asked the company and they said that they use this food for their frogs but I am still unsure.

Its safe and can be used as a main food source. Its called Samurai Pacman Food. A lot of us use it as a Treat, but it can be used throughout the frogs entire life.

It has all the nutrition needed for a balanced frog diet. The main reason most people use it as a treat only is the cost. It can add up fairly quickly if used as a main food source, particularly if you have multiple frogs.

Oh ok, but the frogs don’t mind having no variety? I think I will have to try it. I only have one pac (so far !), do you know how long it (4oz. pack) will last?

Follow the directions on the package. It all depends on how much and how often you offer it. It can last quite a while If only given as a treat.
